Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

help with Upgrading a bike..?

Hey, My name is Mor and I'm a 15 years old Triathlete.
My family and I are looking for a new bike for me, and we need a lttle help with finding the right bike.
We're looking for A bike with:
1) 18-20 Speeds
2) A full Carbon frame + Carbon fork.
That's the most necessary for me right now.
I'd be really happy to get names of bikes that are like this!
The only Bike we know so far that's like we're looking for is the Merida Scultura 905-com.

Thank you!!

Bikes: Specialized Allez (2007)

Why does it need to be a carbon frame? With the specifications you've given, you could get either a really rubbish liability of a bike for not too much money, or a professional quality racing bike. You need to be more specific- how much can you spend? Size? Events- you say tri, are they drafting or not? Hilly? Distance? Will this be just for racing, or will you train on it too?

Finally, you're only 15- have you reached your full height? If not, why spend all your parents money on a carbon bike you'll outgrow in a couple of years?

I suggest that you could get a really good alu bike, with clearance for mudguards so you can train on it through the winter, with tiagra or 105 components, and have money over for some clipon tribars for the non-drafting events you enter. Then in a couple years, when you know more about the type of events you'll be competing in, you can spend the big money on a bike specific to your races.

We can spend about 1500-2500$, we're still learning and trying to figure out the differences.
I have an alu bike, but I reached my full hight, so my parents and I decided we can look for a better bike which will suit my level better.
the size shoul be 48-50", or S if it's not by exact hight.
There is Drafting in the events, and the distance is 20 KM.
The bike should be for training and racing.
thank you for your help!

I still think Basil's advice is good. You can't know that you've reached your full height--I was 5'7" from age 12 to 15, then grew to 6'4" by my 18th birthday. Even if your parents have the money, I think you'd be well served by riding at least another season so you have a better idea of what you need or want and whether your interest will hold. You may have an entirely different set of priorities in a year.
Also, don't neglect school for your riding. You're not likely to make a living from cycling, and there are some pretty obvious spelling and other errors in your posts. It may not matter when you're texting friends, but you'll be judged by that in the real world.

I am six inches taller now compared to my height at 15, so don't assume that you're fully grown.

Good Al is better than crappy carbon, but good carbon is better than good Al. You do have to pay for it, however.

Head to a reputable bike shop and get fitted. Don't be surprised if you need a bigger frame in 2-3 years.

Thank you all.
About the spelling problems and errors I'm sorry. English isn't my first language and I'm trying my best.

Bikes: Linus Roadster 8

Get a used bike with better components. Sell it when you're bigger.

wash, rinse, repeat.

I recommend a used Cervelo S1

Bikes: A dozen or so.

A shop can help you a lot more than this place.
