Dibs on that signed wrecked jersey.

Then I woke up talking to the ambulance dude. I think I was going 23-25 mph when I hit the road.

One of the symptoms of a mild concussion: Blurring of fantasy and reality.

rjones28 05-09-10 01:44 PM

Get well soon, Pcad.

rjones28 05-09-10 01:49 PM

So, how is Dr. Bob? It sounds like he not only went down hard, but then got run over by some big guy on a Scott. And you know those Scotts hurt more than other bikes when they run you over....

Quel 05-09-10 02:18 PM

Rough week for the global locate guys, eh?

Yaniel 05-09-10 02:30 PM

heal quick pCaddy

AngryScientist 05-09-10 02:32 PM

Nn another board I used to be on that board's high poster had his post count rolled back by the moderators as a joke. He didn't see the joke. Would have been funny in this instance for sure.

Same thing on my local board. The scary part is he's back up to top poster on the board again less than a year and a half later with over 25,000 posts.

Tulex 05-09-10 03:34 PM

Oh come on, where the hell are the "pics or it didn't happen" posts.?

mzeffex 05-09-10 03:50 PM

Good thing you're "ok" pcad, those shifters are expensive!

When I got back to the shop I got a close look at the shifters, which appear unscathed except for the rubber hoods which were shredded. They ordered new hoods. $10 a set.

patentcad 05-09-10 04:07 PM

Yeah, I'm fine, thanks for all the kind words, this just makes me empathize with Gary more. That's the Brauer (not Global Locate anymore) dude who got racked up this week. Save your prayers for him.

I think Dr. Bob is fine, he got banged up and rode his bike home.

I'm a bit out of it from the concussion, but I'll feel better tomorrow and 100% in a couple of days. No real serious injuries.

Hell I feel guilty even posting this here after what gsteinb experienced this week. But I was sort of cold cocked for 10 minutes (they said I kept asking the same questions over and over, I have no memory of that period of time) so it was off the the ER for a CT scan and maybe some stitches.

Passed on the stitches, they released me half an hour ago. My bell did get rung pretty good. Oh well. Dr. Bob went down in front of me on River Vale Road about half a mile from the Pearl River line. Crashing on a bike like that isn't usually scary. But it does eff up your day pretty good. Or your season if things really go wrong. Oh well. I'm not dead. And the Mets are playing today. The torment continues.

I've been doing that ride for 20+ years, never crashed on it before. And I think I'm the first guy they ever hauled off in the ambulance that I can remember. Thanks to Big Paul for getting my Scott back to Piermont. I'm headed over there now to pick it up and get it squared away. Everybody on the ride and at Valley Hospital couldn't be nicer. If you're going to slam your head against the ground @ 25 mph, it's good to do it in cycling.

(shudder) Glad you are ok..... well.... you know what I mean. No broken bones soft tissue injury's. break out the Aleave, morphine what have you. kick back and boost the old post count for a while. Seriously though glad you are ok.

Quel 05-09-10 04:19 PM

The real tragedy in this story: pcad has even more time to post as he takes a day or two off the bike.

got a ride. at least one broken rib.

patentcad 05-09-10 04:49 PM

Damn. Very sorry to hear that about Dr. Bob. He was walking around and looked fine before the ambulance carted me off, he seemed fine, so I presumed that he rode home. That sucks. Couldn't avoid him, he was sideways, prone, spread on the road in front of me. I had literally nowhere to go but straight into his bicycle and then over the handlebars. I still don't know what caused Dr. Bob to crash.

midgetmaestro 05-09-10 05:05 PM

Damn. My dad went down on our ride today - effed his back up, needs new bar tape on the left side, somehow the shifter really didn't get scratched....

Get well soon P!

ls01 05-09-10 05:23 PM

Some weird B.F. voodoo juju in the air.

Velo Vol 05-09-10 05:25 PM

This road cycling sport sounds dangerous.

patentcad 05-09-10 05:26 PM

I see nothing weird, sinister or unusual about guys who race or ride in fast groups crashing bicycles.

It does suck, but it is rather routine. Gsteinb's nasty injuries were less common, but even those aren't unusual in this sport. You just hope they don't happen to you.

Just seems like a lot of guys in a short span of time, sure, it happens but seems kind of concentrated lately.

I crashed last weekend:

Smiling even after the tarmac facial since I realize my bike is ok:

Scuffed shifters (fixed this yesterday and today)
