As I pedaled down the road last summer and my new chain fell off 4 miles from my house, it immediately occurred to me that the shop which had installed it, Joe Fix-Its in Goshen, NY, had to have the most ironic name in all of Velo Retail.

That might be true but after spending $4,000+/- on a Cervelo another $45 is no big deal

While on the surface that seems logical, but you then apply that logic to everything you buy for it, then you have a big sink hole.

On the surface putting cheap tires on a 911 makes no sense as well.

The bottle cages on my Addict are faster than the bottle cages on pcad's Addict. They say "Supergo" - so you know they're fast. Very fast.

Who's got Piggy's specs?

dude...diamonds are either for show or for grinding. Cut doesn't really matter for either option.

I can't believe I'm in this stupid thread.

In some instances it does! If your the type of person who would never put a 911 north of 70mph nor get tail happy in hairpins then why would you bother spending $1,600 for tires that's capable of doing 150mph+? Oh that's right, prestige-bragging rights-the ability to LOOK like you drive faster then your great grandfather does. You see, it's all this make believe Hollywood stuff America loves, thus we MUST ride bikes that are $8,000 so we can look like we can go fast.

rangerdavid 02-19-10 10:35 PM

too much information. my brain is now full.

aham23 02-19-10 11:27 PM

i dont know, i mean he is a man **** and i think he is just trying to pass it off as an addiction. i mean gambling away your 401k and drinking away your liver, thats a heck of a lot different than ordering a pot of coffee and some good times at Perkins.

wait, this isnt a thread about Tiger Woods?

later.

I humbly submit to your authority. I know when I'm out of my league.

Truer even yet- I've owned cars with 160 mph rated tires that wouldn't do 160 of the side of Mt Doom!

What, like his FTP? ;)

All together now: a rousing chorus of KILL THE PIG! CUT HIS THROAT! KILL THE PIG!

This thread is a symptom of mankind's essential illness.

The way I look at it, $4,000 on a bike is a cheap mid-life crisis. The ability to ride a bike the same as pro's is amazing and relatively cheap. In addtion a high-end bike does provide a better ride and is lighter. Not all purchases have to be rational. Look at Pcad he has a very nice bike and then goes a buys a second one that is almost as nice.

slothlike 02-20-10 08:55 AM

Let's face it, cycling is more of a hobby for most of us. Pcad as well as myself and most of you ain't making our living turning pedals over.
So to spend what he has is nothing compared to what others waste on Crap. In fact his bikes aren't even that much compared to a lot of builds on weightweenies.
Which is why I get a kick out of his histrionic display of what he buys. He wreaks of rampant insecurity but it is hard to get mad or dislike those who are "special".

I posted that from my Droid using voice recognition and it chooses words for me phonetically and often gets things wrong. Not sure why the double post, but the content of what I said is dead on.

Do you honestly think pcad takes all of this seriously? It's the friggin' internet, for Christ's sake. Anything Al Gore invented shouldn't be taken seriously.
