I can't help it. When I see this commercial I think of Gomer and coasting.

Alphonse has the worst cycling legs ever! How'd he get a job working for Lance anyway?

heckler 07-17-10 12:21 PM

his proportions are weird. above the waist is huge and below is scrawny...Just about the worst cyclist body type ever.

Also kidd. I don't think you can compare NH and TN sure they are both rural, but the similarities end there.

patentcad 07-17-10 12:21 PM

Alphonse is my new cycling hero.

Climbing is easy peasy. today on his final ride before leaving the country, the road nazis i ride with had a fairwell ride and they took pity on me on this last ride. one got in front to pace me and the other got behind to yell abuse at me. Well, technique advice actually but some abuse too. I climbed twice as fast as I normally do on certain hills we know well that we do all the time. It's all technique!

If you drive through during peak tourist times be prepared to wait.

Has anyone been to Pigeon Forge? I avoid going through there if at all possible. A nightmare of stoplights, hotels, music theaters, T-shirt shops, miniature golf, bumper cars, fast food restaurants, and outlet malls. The only redeeming qualities to it are the sales tax revenue and the fact that it keeps a lot of the redneck yahoos out of the mountains.

That lumberjack show will fit right in.

i don't get it. what has titanic got to do with tennessee? can't you put something with local flavour in the museum?

i like the horse sculptures. i think i would love the lumberjack theme park.

coasting 07-17-10 01:05 PM

i'm a sucker for cheesey tourist attractions.

This thread is meant to be about schwag? I have something to say about wheels.

Wheels are by far the biggest determining factor on ride comfort. After 2 months of exclusively riding the Ti on flexy wheels, today I got out the carbon on new stiff light wheels. The stiffness of the wheels turned a plush riding bike into an arse battering pneumatic drill of a bike. Holy moly, it was like I was back on a steel frame. This when I had lowere pressure to 110/100 back/front from previous 120/110. Ouch. They did make my climbing unbelievably faster. This one hill I would slow grind my way up normally, today I got up in less than half the time and I kept waiting for the momentum to run out but it never did. the top just appeared before I knew what was happening.

Oh and 105 5600 rocks. It's very nearly as good as the ultegra 6700

Good question. The only connection they're interested in is connecting with tourist's wallets.

There you go, the lumberjack show. Only if they wanted to show what lumberjacks were really like they would show the idiots who went through clear cutting mountains 100 or so years ago. Thankfully the national park/national forest system rescued what we have left.

if you start planting now, there will be another forest in 100 years. get to it.

The area I do my usual riding has been designated some kind of reforesting site and there has been a record breaking government grant to reforest the area. That's what happens under socialism. I can't wait to see the new trees lining the roads rather than endless dull farm land.

A lot of stuff already grew back, though obviously some areas don't have the old growth trees that they once did.

What sorta steel frame are you referring to? I think my steel bike rides like a Lincoln Town car.

I've got a reynolds 531 bike which I love dearly. It was the bike on which I first started riding. It is actually a nice ride but harsher than the others.

It's only a matter of time before they come after us.

sbxx1985 07-17-10 05:13 PM

111 degrees on the blacktop. That's Africa hot. And we started at 8:30 a.m.

I have a hill climbing addiction. Effing pansies.
