no one doubts the 33 knows loads about riding bikes. the problem is that most cyclists are not dedicated to cycling. cycling is just a hobby on the side whilst the important things take priority. Once in a while someone gets a rush of blood to the head and wants to buy a new bike and comes in here asking about this or that brand with that gearing or this wheelset and why should this guy know anything about it?
This omniscience thing kicks all kinds of ass. You know my priorities? What am I thinking now? maybe we can hire you out for parties.

you don't think someone who knows nothing about bikes dedicates less time to cycling than someone who knows a lot about bikes? i didn't say i know your priorities, just that you spend more time on cycling than someone who knows next to nothing. someone who spends hardly any time on cycling obviously puts cycling way lower in his list of priorities than a serious cyclist.

"important things" = superior to anything bike related. Hmm.

I don't get your point. But in the grand scheme of things, the vast majority of people do not think cycling is all that important. In fact they think cyclists are a positive nuisance.

Is there really anything more important than cycling?

For example, Herbie calls himself a cycling sailor or something like that. I wouldn't be surprised if he knew far more about sailing and to him sailing was the important thing in his priorities.
