you live in the sticks don't you? have you ever ridden there in the dark and is it really really dark outside the city?

I have a 700+ lumen Light and Motion bike light I call the Deathstar that I use when I ride in the dark up here, it works. There are no street lights. On a foggy pre-dawn morning it can be like the bunghole of friggin Mordor up here. You have no idea.

A herd of goats just crossed in front of the yellow jersey group at the Tour on the climb and almost took them all out. Fortunately they were going uphill @ 10 mph and nobody crashed. That was EXCELLENT.

coasting 07-22-10 07:51 AM

damn right i have no idea about night riding anywhere. i'm getting really scared about saturday's overnight ride out into the sticks. forecast is overcast so not even the full moon will be out. chewing my finger nails.

Climbs this morning: 8%, 12%, 6.5% , then 8%.

I'm going to incorporate the last climb into my commute.

I said something mean to you yesterday, old man. BillyD stepped in. It was warranted.

This place runs just fine without you sometimes.

I use a Petzl headlamp when riding at night. It works quite well and has applications outside of cycling. It's been a good investment over the last couple years.

Some of those fancy bike lights are super expensive.

It was a mix of goats and sheep. I saw goats in the clip I watched. And Uncle Pcad knows his goats from his many forays into the Greek mountains.

gsteinb 07-22-10 09:17 AM

Yeah? Ok, my bad. I just heard them say and saw only sheep.

patentcad 07-22-10 09:20 AM

I saw the camels on my ride this AM too.

Sorry, just trying to get your goat.

I'm not going to attack this thread until upper slopes of the Col du Fred.

But I know that no matter what I do I'll never be able to drop gsteinb.

patentcad 07-22-10 09:26 AM

You know, I don't think either of these guys can drop each other on a climb. I don't know if I ever recall seeing that at the top level of this sport for an entire Grand Tour.

We could do without the drunken morons in the Borat thongs on the side of the road. But they looked like they were having fun. I wonder if they'll remember it later?

patentcad 07-22-10 09:30 AM

And they're both riding Specialized bicycles, on two different teams. So that bicycle company appears to be getting their money's worth from their sponsorship expenditures.

patentcad 07-22-10 09:30 AM

Versus really needs my insightful Pcad Color Commentary.

patentcad 07-22-10 09:31 AM

Just watching these kids race up this hill is putting Uncle Pcad into a Spot of Bother.

coasting 07-22-10 09:32 AM

if you go and watch the tour, is it not just a 20 second spectacle?

patentcad 07-22-10 09:36 AM

Alberto let Andy win the stage.

Payback.

Classy move by Contador.

Yes, but the drunken reverie lasts for 4 days.

patentcad 07-22-10 09:39 AM

Wonderful Tdf. Enjoying it.

Always do.

patentcad 07-22-10 09:39 AM

OK, I have work to do.

Believe it or not.

Scroll down to the hourly observations. Between 8:00-8:30 p.m. I approximated an average.

Things are just better at 2am. You said 85%, I said 84%. It made perfect sense at the time.

sbxx1985 07-22-10 10:03 AM

I grew up amongst the dromedaries. Nasty buggers.

Would silver handlebar tape look good on a silver/black bike?

I'm guessing probably not.
