Work on finishing the "rocket" ride within the time limit.

Pcad's Velo Revelation for Monday July 26th: My Powertap tells me I burn about 30-35 Kj (calories) for every mile I ride when I'm going easy. The ride up Mt. Doom is exactly one mile. I watched the computer this AM. 110 Kj to climb my one mile long hill going easy.

I told you it was a sucky climb. I'll tell you what, the next time I look at some 'low calorie snack' that's 'only' 100 calories, I'm going to think 'I have to ride up Mt. Doom to eat that?'

110 kilojoules = 26.3 Calories

Think of his many Tic Tacs you could eat. Damn your breath is minty.

coasting 07-26-10 07:58 AM

A million bazillion.

jellyfish stings make it difficult to get a good shave, but the dog does enjoy licking them.

Herbie53 07-26-10 08:08 AM

Hey Pcad - if you were to spend $5kish on a road bike today, what would it be?

mzeffex 07-26-10 08:10 AM

Ow. New helmet time. Riding about 20 mph down Walter Reed Dr. in Arlington, VA, a car blared its horn at me, scared the balls out of me, I hit a wing mirror on a parked car, flipped over just to see it speed off. Three cars passed me while I was on the ground, one running over a water bottle.

Just some bike damage (Uh oh, it clicks) - destroyed the brand new seat on its first ride, bar tape, shift levers scratched.

That was fun.

My helmet did it's job, but it is just scraped not smashed. I'm not sure if I should go to the hospital. I feel fine and rode home anyway.

rjones28 07-26-10 08:13 AM

Busy work schedule, bad weather, and social obligations limited my riding time this week. However, I still lost almost 5 lbs.

But, I'm still too fat for this sport.

Yikes. Glad you're relatively unscathed.

Thanks. Just some road rash on arms. It would be where I don't shave.

It helps him fit in with the peloton and shows his commitment to the sport.

Read about mzeffex's crash. The love of the general motoring public for cyclists makes me verklempt. He's lucky they didn't flatten him.

Nice pleasant weekend of bicycle riding.

Yeah really. I couldn't believe three cars went by after the one who caused the crash, not one slowing down even. They obviously saw me, as I was in the whole right lane and they had to pass on the other side of the yellow line.

Also, the road ID unclipped and flew off. That's reassuring.

I rode on that road once when I somehow followed the wrong path off the 4 mile run trail when I wanted to go straight. Probably wouldn't do it again. Wide, fast, and some short steep hills to slow you down. Actually, that describes most of Arlington to me. Not sure how you guys ride down there.

Well, you're probably still recovering from your epic run to the seashore. By the way, how did the Ti feel on that ride?
