If you're looking for evidence of Ultimate BF Stupidity, look no further.

I mean, the 33 does have a point, the 41 is rife with Velo cluelessness. Of course, learning about this preposterously arcane and highly technical sport is why people come here in the first place. And for that these 33 morons, many of whom don't have much of a life outside of cycling, think they're cool because they're so much smarter about it. You know, smarter about a topic the rest of the world could give a flying fark about. More knowledgeable about a sport whose participants much of the world views as two wheeled road kill waiting to happen.

It just doesn't get any stupider than that, unless you're a Mets fan, and I am. I have all the stupid bases covered.

The first step in coming to terms with Road Cycling is the full understanding of how utterly pointless, stupid, and idiotic it appears to the rest of the world.

In this department, the 33 embodies Utter Fail.

coasting 07-27-10 11:18 AM

no one doubts the 33 knows loads about riding bikes. the problem is that most cyclists are not dedicated to cycling. cycling is just a hobby on the side whilst the important things take priority. Once in a while someone gets a rush of blood to the head and wants to buy a new bike and comes in here asking about this or that brand with that gearing or this wheelset and why should this guy know anything about it?

I don't know. Unlike today in school, when I went to school, there was a special room for kids with special needs. Today, they are all put together under the "No kid left behind" act. It has failed miserably. The only good thing that has come of it is teaching all kids tolerance. When I went to school, we knew about these special needs kids, but we didn't go into the room and belittle them. Well, there were a few aholes that would, but they probably belonged in the room anyway.

The 41 is one huge no kids left behind room. The 33 is the special room, in a warped way.

Correct. In other words, the 33 are the Special Needs kids here. The poignant irony is that they think it's the other way around.

Only in cycling. Only on BF.

coasting 07-27-10 11:32 AM

lets take for example the thread about sucking. the guy does diddly squat mileage. Well, i remember the day i did my first ever 10 mile ride. holy flippin hell i was tired and pleased with myself. i didn't just get on the bike and ride. i put the bike in the car and drove 10 miles to a quiet spot in the country just so i can concentrate on doing a 10 mile personal best. I laugh about that 10 miles because i ride through that area all the time now and it goes by in a flash. For all newbs and infrequent riders, that 10 miles is a real achievement and they have no idea that 10 miles is nothing but to them it seems like a long ride. they come in here and get burned because everyone says 10 miles? you suck!

Tulex 07-27-10 11:38 AM

Hey pCad, have your ever toured?

Velo Vol 07-27-10 11:38 AM

This site needs a 41 subforum for beginners. Maybe the posters wouldn't get flammed as much then, or maybe they could more easily find answers amongst all the clutter.

But apparently all the subforums have been used up for such hot topics as BMX, England, and the like.

Absolutely NOT. This kind of crap exists everywhere. I frequent 4x4 and knife communities and this kind of crap is everywhere.

The biggest difference between those places and the BF, is the spandex...

Now, there are enough good people on here that will pat him on the back, they get it. Yet it only takes one facepalm or stupid reply to totally change the direction of the thread. And that is my issue. What ever happened to the old saying about if you don't have something nice to say.

Sheesh, add in the Miller beer forum, and you have a full day.

But wait, there's more. The "pointy" end of the pad should be at the back - it scrapes water and crap off the rim. Finally, it's good to tow the pads in so that the front touches the rim just before the back to prevent squealing.

The Miller is for a quick carb load after a ride... ;)

It's good to be well rounded.

The first part should happen automatically because of the notch for the screw, right? Second part is good to know.

The difference was, with that dude, he appeared frustrated that he sucked after a year, but he didn't ride much and refused to ride more to improve. If you're going to post a thread about how much you suck and then refuse to listen to suggestions about what you might do to not suck, then you deserve the flaming.

Obviously, the flaming was over the top. I stopped reading once he said he wasn't going to increase his mileage.

I know what you mean. Begining is often hard and once you're used to the effort, it's hard to remember why it was hard before. But, regarding the "I suck" thread, posters seemed mostly helpful (pointing out the need for goals, increased mileage, etc...) but the OP kind of seems like he doesn't really want the help.
