That's the question: why mount the brake shoes with the open end pointing one direction on the front wheel and the opposite way on the rear wheel?

I realize my scientific cycling questions threated to overload the Fred circuitry here and shut down the entire system.

When you're on the outside looking in, you wish you were on the inside. Once you're inside, you realize the inside kind of sucks. Such is life.

You mean the whole brake assembly, and not just the pads? Or the fact that the pad bolt is offset?

That can be interpreted many ways, so not sure what you are saying. I just feel that more people would contribute/participate if there wasn't so much of a beat down all the time. Yeah, once you are here for a while, you get the feel of it. I think a lot of people don't bother because of the atmosphere in here at times.

Yeah, but I was questioning what grass he was refering to.

Ah. I have no clue.

Why must everything be so complicated?

The things that hold the brake pads have an open end (to slide in the brake pad).

As my bike was assembled, these ends were pointed toward the wheel rotation on one wheel, and on the opposite side on the other wheel. I ask why that is so.

this place is a hole. i'm leaving.

Seems like they should be the same.

i've never changed a brake pad before. sounds like quite an ordeal

coasting 07-27-10 10:12 AM

you know that thread bemoaning how bad th op is at cycling? i feel like starting one bemoaning how unfair it is that some people piddle around on 30 mile weeks and the pounds drop off whilst I'm doing big rides every week on both sat and sun and I can't shift diddly. I really am doing a century a week it seems, and on top of that shorter 20-30 mile rides 2 or 3 times on weekdays.

i'm sick of this crap. i'm quitting.

Cycling is an elitist sport full of elitist aholes. One can't expect to come to an internet forum full of cyclists and expect not to encounter the aholes. It's like walking into Vecchio's Bicicletteria, finding the crew sipping cappuccinos on the couches, and asking for help with your Sora shifters on your Allez.

Such is life. I agree the atmosphere sucks sometimes, but for the most part, as long as you're willing to wade through the BS, there is a ton of good information in the 41.

Gluteus 07-27-10 10:22 AM

Ride less. Get faster.

1 or 2 intense interval rides/week.
Recovery rides or easier (shorter) "endurance" rides the other days. 1 or 2 days off/week.
It worked for me. I still suck at riding, but not as bad as 2 years ago.

I was just looking at the brake pad packaging and it's possible the shop that assembled the bike did it wrong.

Why must I figure these things out?

I concur.

Fixed, and conveyed to coasting before. He apparently doesn't get it.

Took out necessary bolts. Pried and/or tore, then slid the old ones out.

And this is where I disagree. I think that the 33, er, I mean RBR may be full of elitist aholes, but not cycling in general. This board has a ton of sub categories. But road cycling is so wide spread, it can't be generalized. Many of the people in the RBR sub treat the RC like it is the minor league to RBR. I think that is so not what it is. It's all kinds of people that ride maybe some of the other subs, like Rec, tour, etc. But it's also people that are just having fun on bikes, trying to get fit, commuting, etc.

Quite frankly, I have always thought that having RBR be a sub off of RC was a huge mistake. I think that RBR should be it's own forum. And seeing that there is a pro forum already, why not call it what it is, amateur racing.

Did you use pliers? It should have been quick, even if they were fossilized.

I thought you just took the nut off and put new pads on, pad holder and all. I have not even looked at what my pads look like to know what has to be done to change them.
