Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The OP should just PM the guy who put a whole tube of Elmer's glue in his frame, he's sure to have some tips.

Bikes: Crap. The box is not big enough...

What size is it? I'd buy it for $23.02, if I have a big enough wall...

I used to work with carbon... in the performance sailing crowd, actually. I'd say it's fixable.

Pity it's not a 56 or 57; I'd be interested.

Yeah, Ultraman has me thinking along these lines. Not sure the repair effort would yield a decent sale price if I did it myself. If I could put a frame-builder's name behind the repair, maybe...

I'm sure the fork is worth something, and I don't have any bikes that would fit it.

Just wedge some bamboo shims in there and you'll be good to go.

But seriously (probably mentioned in the original thread), doesn't Calfee do CF repairs even on non-Calfee bikes? Even if all you got out of it was a really nice rain bike, it be worth a few dollars to get it back in working order.

Hell, everybody knows between duct tape, crazy glue and ty-wraps you can fix anything.

Bikes: N-1 where N = number needed

Just flood it with molten aluminum and machine it back out to accept a fresh BB.

This is a pro frame. A pro frame is not designed to last forever if it's to be raced. That's why the warranty does not include racing. Therefore, if you cannot afford to replace your broken raced pro frame, follow this old racing adage...
"Race what you can replace."
Or become a good enough rider that someone will pay for your stuff and give you a salary. Or get into the bike business so you can buy new stuff at prices lower than what people buy used stuff for.

Life is not this hard folks.

Warranty coverage does not include racing or secondary ownership. It's called "assumption of risk."

The warranty certainly does cover racing. Just not "damage due to racing." That's not the issue here. There are plenty of pro-level frames on the road for more than a decade. The racing isn't what hurt it -- my peak power in testing and training is much higher.

At least we agree that this Trek Madone wasn't durable.

today i was stopped at some lights and another rider pulls up next to me. He looked critically at me and my bike, turned up his nose and then gave me the stare ahead. when i said "hi, a bit cold isn't it" he looked at me briefly and then back to the stare ahead. then the lights changed and he sprinted off.

He rode a Madone. Another Madone failure? By the way, he was fatter than me.

Two possible reasons for his reaction: Did you forget to shave your legs and Did you forget to match your socks to your bike frame color?

When i hear the word "failure" An image of a rider's frame just snapping below him/her at 30mph, pops into mind.
