Hey UMD, or cdr, or anyone, what editing software do you use for the .mov files? I have searched this thread till I'm dizzy and if anyone mentioned it I can't find it. I just want to be able to trim and dissolve from one clip to another. Thanks.

slynkie 09-16-10 07:45 AM

i've been using Windows Live Movie Maker, which is simple/free but does what you ask...

Stevie47 09-16-10 08:04 AM

Thanks, I've been trying WLMM but haven't got a handle on it yet. The help stuff appears to be pretty spartan.

slynkie 09-16-10 08:08 AM

yea, when i said 'simple' was referring to the feature set, not the intuitiveness ;) to trim, go to the Edit tab and you can set start/end points individually, or click on Trim Tool to go to a dedicated interface for selecting start/end by frame or time.

I bought a mac to edit mov files after doing one on a friend's machine.

that's tempting...and i get the employee/student/whatever discount, too. mac minis are small enough that my wife might not even notice :innocent:

ok, keeping it on topic -
zero editing (other than trim)/captions. tuesday night leg-breakers ride. i wasn't paying attention, stuck on a "bad" wheel (he's actually a really good, strong rider. just didn't have it that night), and got gapped off. he even pulled aside to let me through, but it took me a few seconds to gather myself...

pulled myself up, just in time for another surge...*pop*, right back off. ugh. i like to watch it and berate myself for not trying harder.

Check out Adobe Premier Elements 8, I use it to edit mp4 and mov videos.

I fall victim to the "I'll move up in a sec" thoughts, and suddenly I'm in the 3rd group and about to get lapped. I have no idea where that bit of road is, but since it's uphill, that's not surprising to me.

The mac is nice, although I had to learn how to type again, kind of (no "end", "delete" works like a backspace, etc). The touchpad actually works. Etc. I got a refurb or open box or something MacBook, not a "full retail" one. The solid aluminum case thing is kind of cool.

I use Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum. It works well but it probably overkill if you just want to do transitions between clips.

Here is my contribution to this thread:

This is the LTF tuesday evening ride in Alpharetta, north of Atlanta. Being the last group ride of the year, the organizers managed to get police escort and we did not split in A, B, C groups. Everybody was in this huge group.
Oh and if you get bored, you can skip to the small crash at 5:30, nothing serious, though.

Berkeley Bicycle Club Hammer Ride. winding descent with the setup to the sprint beginning at the 8:00 minute mark. amazing how quickly the legs lose race fitness...

looks like fun, always nice to have closed roads.

possible that was a real quick step guy, but also a good chance he was on the shriners / quick step team that is based here in NorCal.

i've done a few P12 races with them. not sure what their deal is, don't think they're affiliated with the pro tour quick step team.

Tuesday night training series. This was the 3rd to last race in the series for 2010. I'll have the last one up at some point soon.

There's a guy in your video (blue kit) who looks exactly like Bob Roll.

botto 11-30-10 01:11 PM

bump.

Forza 01-02-11 10:09 AM

Took my new Contour HD out for the first time yesterday and braved the cold with just one other rider. So we traded pulls...etc. Beautiful Seattle Day, with a quick New Year's spin around Lake Washington.

Being new to the recording the ride thing, and hindsight being 20/20 with Dashware, I'll set it and forget it from now on. Starting and stopping the camera made manually syncing and exporting short clips a real pain and degraded the video a little through multiple conversions. Errr...So I created a "hybrid" video with only portions showing the Dashware components.

cyclocommuter 01-02-11 10:19 AM

It takes a while to master the art of syncing telemetry and ride videos.

BTW, I subscribed to UMD's channel on Youtube, here is one of his recent video:

In your post a couple back above...showing your own video; did you create the elevation map and grade gauges?
