Hopefully they won't put music over the entire video either. It would be nice to hear the race sounds instead;)

I think we covered this until the horse was dead, revived and the killed again...

Why don't we just keep this thread "on-track", freighttrain. ;)

Hi archimeaties I did notice that your videos do not have that awful rolling shutter effect. Are you using camera with global shutter (if yes I'd like to know which one) or you have some special mount?

I'm using the contour HD, which I think has rolling shutter. I've dealt with this simply by reducing vibration. See here (http://www.suffervision.com/cameras) for how I mount the camera.

Here's an early video shot with the same camera, but before I had good vibration control:

Let me bring this thread back down to kid territory ;)

CyciumX 05-16-11 09:56 PM

^-- in the original video I mixed the audio with the actual live track, but it was pretty much just wind so I took it out....sorry about my taste in music, but you can always mute it and just hyperventilate on yer own ;)

hooligancyclist 05-16-11 09:58 PM

Hopefully my Vimeo account will do the trick.

It's mostly an adventure/vacation highlight video, but there's some excellent cycling shots in here. Shot, edited and uploaded by a riding pal of mine.

I figured this is the best place for this.
I got a Contour on Amazon on sale.
This is my second attempt at a video. The first I had the video oriented upside down and didnt realized it. Also a 2GB card is good for about 1/2 hour of standard video. dont know about the battery life of the camera.

This is my bike without the power meter so no data and I don't have the software anyways

Port of Oakland from this week. Weekly hammerfest training ride at the wonderful Port of Oakland. 6:30 to 8PM tuesdays

Have fun w/your new toy!

...16GB card will get you about 2 hours of HD (720p @ 60fps). Keep in mind that 720p@60fps will take up more space than 1080p @ 30fps, by virtue of the double data. But, IMO it makes all the difference in playback smoothness...You can expect the battery (fully charged) to last about two hours as well...

Some footage from some recent races..

VA - I think at that point may be in the low 20's. That was the end of the 'neutral laps' The speed picks up after the next right hand turn on the the long back stretch

Here are some fun ones.

Descent of Stelvio (towards Prato):

Thanks. I filmed it in Sonoma County, CA. The roads are Meyer's Grade, Fort Ross Rd, and Hwy 1. Lots of pretty views and hard riding around here.

I have no love for the guy who brings his 6 year old on the back of the tandem.

Here is a video I made a few months ago. The amount of time it took for me to make it has led me to reconsider video editing as a hobby.

My teammate (SOC in the videos) didn't realize how much time I spend on clips until he saw me editing two clips pretty much non-stop for 7 days, both mornings and evenings (while at a training camp per se). And I still wasn't done with either of them, took another week of evenings. He was pleased with the results but he was also a bit dismayed at how long it took for me to edit each clip.

My last few have been quick efforts, 5-10 hours each (not including the data transfer/conversions, esp the initial import, which typically takes a couple hours). The most time consuming ones were 25 hours and I think one was in the 40 hour realm.

I need a lot of uninterrupted time with the Mac and its external drive. I'll go to the office/desk at 8 PM plan on spending a few hours editing and it'll be 2 AM before I realize what time it is (and only because the Missus has walked over to see why I'm not in bed).

Ultimately I guess it's like doing a century or bike racing or stuff like that - the folks that don't do it can't possibly understand, and those that do do it realize that it's both arduous but possible.
