I've never seen a post by him that was anything other than a string of non-sequiturs. I'm convinced now that it's part of a Turing test.

This is the moment of the thread much like in The Sixth Sense or Angel Heart when you say to yourself, WTF?

you screwed up. Injuries happen in group sports, and even in individual x-sports. That is what figuring "What did I do wrong?" is about. You'll recover and be fine. You might lose some speed, or maybe you can recover fully. Lance crashed in this TdF. In past years, maybe his reflexes were faster, maybe he spotted trouble a tad earlier and veered around.
Botto's comment about always wearing a base layer, what does that have to do with an ankle injury?
You play intensive sports, you get hurt. It's unavoidable. My best high school friend was hit by a car or some vehicle in Monterey Co. , two weeks in ICU at Stanford. Sh*t happens.

Baselayer? naw... Just get a jersey with rip-stop threads of aramid - win!
There was another study a few weeks back stating that cotton and synthetics keep the skin at the same temperature(they were even testing cyclists)... so there, it is mostly a comfort issue.

It's easy to look in hindsight knowing he is there and what happens. When it is unfolding, you can't tell that the rider way up the road is going to slow down significantly.

With the number of riders that were present in that group and the overall speed, it would be next to impossible to spot one guy slowing down and then have enough time to check and react.
As somebody said on the youtube vid, "even pros crash".

there is one on the right too, the group catches him right before the guy in the center. I'd taken that as a sign.

Well, to paraphrase Gladiator, "what we do on rides... echoes in the eternity of BF..."
...especially when there's video.
What amazes me is how it can all go south in a fraction of a second. Fortunately, most of us aren't even fast enough to be on this ride, so all we have to worry about are right-hooks, dingy moms with strollers, and other MUPsters.
Heal up quickly, Steve!

I just rewatched the video several times and you don't know what you are talking about. There is nobody on the right side getting caught. All the riders on the right of me were accounted for. The rider [Ron] that went with the guy I hit [Jeff] was still way up the road, which you can clearly see at 0:45 right as I am about to go down. I'm fairly certain that Ron stayed away to the end.
