Hate to see this kind of thing happen to anyone - hope everyone heals well. I looked for Jeff throughout the video to see if he is visible at all until right before the crash. I think I see him very briefly at about 0:41 in...
Hard to assign blame to any one person here.

Watching things unfold on video is a bit different than when you experience it first hand. I've had riders on sprints pull that exact same maneuver in order to avoid potholes which is why I now move in the same direction they move off to as quickly as I can. Hope you heal up well umd.

**** happens. You can sit here with hindsight and pick apart what happened. And that's actually a good thing for us all to do, to learn vicariously.
But it's not reasonable to attempt to assign fault when you have multiple views of the tape, hours to reflect, and already know the outcome.

Look when it comes down to it, we all sign up for this. Some of us here race and this is just an accepted part of cycling for us, others just stick to group rides and something like this is unacceptable and blame has to be assigned. But frankly if you're in a group, you know there's a sprint coming up and you're going 40 mph, there is a chance that **** is going to hit the fan and you'll be part of it if it does and by being there turning over the cranks you have without words agreed to that risk.
Umd didn't sit and assign blame, he frankly got up and brushed himself off and was a man about it.
This crash can be summed up in 6 words - **** Happens When You Party Naked.

That wasn't the question. What is your experience in this situation to think you can pass judgment? I may not agree with everything Erik says in the Youtube comments, but at least he has the experience to back up his mouth. You have zip. So zip it.

If you're asking have I ever rode in big groups doing 30, yes. That's where I learned that it aint too smart an idea to ride blind whatever the speed, whether it was a crit training practice with Incycle or a mid level racer like yourself doing a 40 mph sprint for nothing on a training ride just to get video to impress a group of riders on the forums with your superduper wattage that also means nothing in the realworld like my fun ride videos!

You rode blind. You get what you get. I have no idea what I'm talking about of course, but then, I've never run anyone over either.

The dude ahead could have called out the rider too but it is umd's responsibility to keep his eyes open. My bet is thathe was concentrating onteh camera looking for impressive footage so the members would think he's a cycling god. I've done it an crashed but I'm not crying about it in denial!

I'm not denying any share of responsibility, I'm denying sole responsibility. I have not heard from ONE PERSON who was ACTUALLY THERE who blames me for causing the crash. It was just an effed up situation and I got the short end of the stick. As several others have said, it's easy to be an armchair quarterback watching it on video after the fact and say I should have seen it coming, but it's something else entirely in the middle of it.
And regarding Mr. Pro, here is what one person said about him to me: "he is a prick and a guy who has pushed me into on coming traffic in the world's sprint"

If you think that's what I was doing than you are a few cards short of a full deck.

I don't race the TDF for a living and don't use a powermeter to impress the fans but I'm not that stupid enough to race for 30th place in a group doing 40 when all experience says that there is a chance that a rider doing the leadout may drop back from the lead group after the leading out.

One of the things I've learned on BF (counter to what I've thought in the past) is that a wicking base layer help in the heat (I now use Craft and UA under a jersey) or even when sweating alot, seemed counter intuitive at first but this firms it up for secondary and more important in this case uses of a base layer can provide more protection, I've never crashed at 40 but have sprinted very near that in group rides. Just like in Mtn Climbing (my past life) base layers can mean more than their intended purpose, and same rules apply--cotton doesnt help if you're exerting yourself, it holds you back. Glad this didnt have a more dire consequence, and great vids btw....shXX happens in life....be prepared for it when it comes around, like in this case.
