Garmin Forerunner Bike Mount
I just got a Forerunner 305, has anyone ever used either of these mounts and can you tell me which one works better? The first one is definitely more secure but the second one seems like it'd be a good idea for tris.

Pretty sure the difference is in compatibility. Only one works well with the 305.

Since I have aerobars on my bike I cut a section of pvc pipe, zip-tied it between the aerobars and installed the quick disconnect on the pvc. Works great!
But... I was on a trail run recently and an inexperienced a$$hat mountain bike rider came along riding in the opposite direction. The trail was wide enough for both of us to pass without dumping into the gigglies. But he freaked out, squealed like a little girl, swerved back and forth and actually side-swiped me. 5-6 steps later, I realized that he actually knocked my Garmin off the quick-release wrist strap and sent it flying. It took me at least 20 minutes of searching to find it lying face down in the weeds. I was really not happy and may have had some choice words regarding his riding ability. Arm behind my back when passing mountain bikes now!
Bottom line: I'm confident with the security of the quick-release mount but you do have to keep an eye on it!

Copied from the thread posted in Electronics:
I DO NOT have a Forerunner 305...so your experience will definitely vary.
I have the Forerunner 405, and used it for cycling until I got a Garmin Edge 500. One of the things that I hated about the 405 was the way it sat on my wrist. I've got large wrists and it was just uncomfortable with its built in curvature.
So, I got the replacement strap pictured in the second link (shown below)

This made the 405 much more comfortable. I used that for a month or so and was very happy with it...other than needing to look at my wrist while riding. So I bought the mount in the first link. It works GREAT. You don't need to use the zip ties, so you can move it from one bike to another. The watch strap wraps around it quickly and securely, and the tightening of the strap causes it to grip the handlebars nicely.
One thing to note. If you use a watch strap that is a 'pin and buckle' type (as opposed to a velcro strap like the one pictured), then it might be more difficult to put it on the mount. Not much more difficult, but if you're trying to save time in a transition, it's something to think about.

Edited to add: This is what the 405 looks like with the velcro strap mounted on the bike mount from the first link:

Sorry in advance if I don't understand the question- but if you want to mount a 305 to a bike (stem/handlebar) you should look at this:
https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Edge-Ha...1637282&sr=1-5
I use a 305 and a 705 and use this mount on several bikes. It is very secure, and is adjustable for angle and different mounting areas.

Thanks for posting about the bar mount. I have been wanting to mount it to the bar but when I got mine the mounting bar kit had awful reviews about it popping off. I will be ordering one. Thanks.

I have the 2nd mount with my 305... works great on the bike and for off the bike the wrist strap is much superior than the one it originally came with, also its easy to switch between the two.

I have both mounts for my 310XT, I started with the first mount linked to, and also have the second one linked too, but the second one doesnt seem to work on my Garmin, which is pretty dumb I think that an actual tri specific garmin watch doesnt have a quick release strap for it. If I am doing a tri, I find it is just easier and faster to leave it on my wrist.

I just have 2 inches of the foam pipe insulation stuff around my handlebars, tie the watch around that and use a twisty tie (like from the grocery store) to put it through the hole on the wrist strap and connect it to a break cable.

Thanks all, I went with the quick release since I realized the watch is most likely going to be used for tris and I'd rather not have to fumble around with an strap in transition. But maybe this means I should get one of the Garmin Edges
