Caads weren't even on my radar as they were a little out of my price range, but I stopped in a local shop that I didn't even know sold Cannondales ('12 was their first year carrying them) and they had one 2012 left and it was my size (56) in team paint. Never dreamed of owning one of these but the thing fit like a glove and at $999 +tax I couldn't pass it up.

Congrats on the new ride, it looks sweet. I think you got it for a sweet price too.

Agreed, that's what I got my 2012 CAAD8-6 for almost a year ago, and that was after a club membership. Really goes to show the benefits of buying previous year bikes.

Sweet. I love the team colors and just paid $1100.00 for mine so that's a smokin deal!

NWS Alpine 12-11-12 12:20 PM

I paid $1600 for the same bike a while back and it's such a good bike I would still pay that much today. Although mine now has more money in upgrades than the original price of the bike by a big margin.

What all did you do to it? have you posted it? If not do you mind posting it?

seymour1910 12-11-12 01:47 PM

nevermind, didn't see where you listed the upgrades....do you have pics?

NWS Alpine 12-11-12 01:56 PM

Here is the most recent picture. Doesn't include Planet X CNC brakes, Zipp SL Carbon bar, and Hollowgram crankset. They were recent changes that replaced the pictured TRP 920SL brakes, Sram Force crankset (I removed the paint on the outside and custom painted the inside liquigas green), and the Zipp SC SL SSR aluminum bars.

In my list I didn't include the cages, tail light, Lezyne Superdrive, Custom Garmin mount, Garmin 310XT, Wahoo Ant+ Speed/cadence.

If you had to recommend one of these ("every caad10 5 owner should replace xxx") based on perceived improvement for the $$, what would it be?

I know you didn't ask me but my response would be;
tires first, brake pads 2nd.

So far I've replaced - Mavic Kyrsirum Elite Wheels, Continental 4000s tires, Regal seat, ultegra brakes (on the white bike), FSA slk crankset. I may switch the Ultegra shifters, read derailure and front derailure from my Strada to the white bike. Just haven't decided yet.

On the black bike I've replaced the brake pads, regal seat and Elite wheels, .

NWS Alpine 12-11-12 04:02 PM

Without question a nice lighter and wide rim wheelset and a good set of tires. Then the best saddle that fits you.

Ready to join the cult, went to LBS and all set to order a 10-3 in Raw and Black. Just wondering what you cult peeps would change on the bike before leaving the shop.I asked about tires because what has been said on here the stock tires are not that good and he said they would swap them for what i wanted.I am thinking stainless steel water bottle cages and computer.Anything i may be missing?

BoomMcNasty 12-11-12 06:09 PM

^ consider brake pads as well.

qcpmsame 12-11-12 06:34 PM

^^^, +1 on the brake pads. I just put on the Kool Stop Dura Dual cartridges. Makes a big difference.

Speaking of tire replacement, what are some general tires anyone would recommend to switch to from the stock versions on the CAAD10?

I'm a newbie with cycling. I've studied components, but I know little when it comes to which tires to get.

I'll more than likely be replacing the tires on a 2012 CAAD10 3. If all goes well. Otherwise, a 2012 Super Six 6 or 2013 CAAD10 5. (All clinchers if I'm not mistaken...?)

I'll see if I can swap out tires on the spot, or if the LBS will charge me. I'll also try to get some Kool Stop brake pads. Otherwise, it'd be pretty set to leave the shop stock, correct? With exception to a possible OEM stem swap during fitting. I'm taking notes as we speak.

freedomrider1 12-11-12 07:16 PM

Looks like we are going to get the same bike drummer. I am leaning towards the continental 4000s set of tires. Now i'am wondering what kind of brakes pads come on our ultregra brakes?Oh,about the tires, my shop said they will buy back the stock tires so i will have to make up the difference in price between the two. What are your choices for H2O cages and computer?

Nagrom_ 12-11-12 07:17 PM

Can't go wrong with Conti GP4000s's.

soonerrebel 12-11-12 07:36 PM

What a very nicely engineered build, Well Done, Sir! Could you please give the details of your build component choices?

NWS Alpine 12-12-12 08:09 AM

The only things I would change would be no white tires and remove all the decals except the little logo near the valve stem. That's just my preference though. Looks great!
