Thanks for the suggestion! It is definitely just what I was thinking of. Mental bookmark.

I think it looks like a great mix between a road an all rounder. Plenty of clearance but tight enough geometry that it probably rides like a roadie. The black frameset would look great with your red group.

Thanks! I agree on the chainrings, but then I would need black derailleurs, brakes, etc. Actually, the groupset was originally purchased for a white frame, or else I would have gotten the SRAM Red Black groupset. In the end, I am happy enough with the silver bits. It's easy to go overboard with the all-black thing. I would still like to get the black-on-black 3T stem though [this one has a white stripe].

Now that you mention it, the silver bits make it really pop. The fact they are brushed silver opposed to polished silver really makes the bike look stealth. The grey crank set was the first thing my eyes were drawn too. The bike you were inspired by looks great, but I'd take yours over that 4 out of 5 times. The 5th time is just to get my hands on that Hollowgram :)

Swapping the SRAM Red over would be truly awesome! If CAAD10s had a bit more tire clearance I'd try to pick up a second frame to build up as a beater bike. I love it so much I could justify having two.

Sounds like you need a CAADX.

I have definitely considered it. The amount of CAADXs available in store around here in pretty limited though. Now that I'm looking for it, maybe I'll see some more.

Anyone have similar clicking noises on their 10? Any suggestions?

Do you hear it even when not pedaling? It sounds too rapid to be the BB anyway, just checking. Some common places for odd noises are - BB, pedals, saddle clamp, bottle cages..

Oh yeah, if the CAAD10 becomes Bike #1, hollowgrams are an absolute must. Now that I come to think of it, I do have a NOS CAAD9 frame in storage. Hmm. Still tight for tires, but I could at least have a dedicated rain bike with fenders. Plus, of course, another CAAD to ride!

Did you install it by yourself or a shop did it? If you are sure that the pedals or the saddle or skewers or anything else is not the source of the sound, then I would suggest you remove the crankset, make sure the washers are properly installed and then re-install the crankset with proper torque.

If the sound persists, remove the bearings too and re-install them using Loctite 609.
Here is a great guide with pictures

Recently acquired a 2011 CAAD 10 3 at a very nice price - loving the green highlights and boy, is it quick! (105 brake calipers have since been changed to Ultegra)

I was speaking with a mechanic at a clinic my student organization was hosting. He kept pushing me to go hollowgrams. I would if I had the cash.

A CAAD9 with fenders would be a pretty dang nice rain bike. If I could get my hands on a CAAD9/10 frame, I'd like to build up the same. Probably use SRAM Apex so I can experiment with the double tap shifting. I could even use it as a commuter. I might have some longer commutes in summer. Not comfortable with taking my CAAD10 as my main bike, but I don't want to haul an undersized 1988 mountain bike.

I swear it's coming from the stem/handlebars. Lubed the stem clamp, handlebar and bolts - still there. Creaks whether pedaling or not.

Nagrom_ 03-23-13 01:44 PM

Check your skewers.

Thanks mate, the more I ride it, the more I love the thing. The power through the BB is so direct and the bike wants to launch itself. I've been smashing my old PRs with ease! It is so much bike for a muppet such as myself - so now, my cycling is bound to improve!

cheers

macca33......wow, I wish I could get my hands on that frame. I have the money now for a new CAAD but I am waiting to see the 2014 models efore I pull the trigger.

Cheers seymour.

It was a shop demo - a 2011 frame, I believe. I wasn't in the market, but had to grab it, as it looks fantastic. All the different colour schemes on the CAAD 10s look good I reckon and MY2014 will probably be just as impressive.

I had a similar clicking sound on mine shortly after buying it. Mine turned out to be a headset and fork that needed to be greased. Other cannondale owners have had the same problem.

You can check for it by standing over your bike, locking the breaks up and putting different kinds of forces through the handle bars. If you can reproduce the click this way, probably something around the headset area.

THSdrummer 03-24-13 07:20 PM

My sound was the trim on the FD. Upon inspection, I found the FD was slanted to favor the higher gears in the cassette.

Impreza_aL 03-24-13 08:54 PM

just had a fresh pair of bb30 bearings put in and it's clicking already. the last set lasted about 1500 miles. i'm on my 4th set in 6 months.
