esurek, nice bike, congrats. don't worry about upgrades just ride it for now. after a while you will know exactly what you want. as for cages you can get cheap black cages that are light honestly. I got some off ebay that are 20g each and they got to me in three days.

Do you or anyone have pictures of these on your bike you could post?

Awesome build! I've got a NOS CAAD9 frame in the same color stashed away in case I wreck my CAAD10 or Cervelo. IMHO, it would look better with a less-chunky stem, and perhaps a saddle with some white on it to balance out the hoods, like this:

Probably doesn't like the shape...?

bianchi10:

How well do those cages grip your bottles? I really love my Arundel Mandibles, but it's a hassle to swap them between my bikes, and not sure if I can stomach buying a second set...

I spy Conti GP4K tires, did you finally give in to the superior tires and ditch your weirdo tires from that brand/type that I can't spell?

Was he riding Fredsteins?

bianchi10 02-27-13 08:37 PM

They are GREAT. just firm enough to grip the cage and not have it slip out but not so tight that it is difficult to pull out and put back in while riding. TOTALLY worth the money

Hmm sounds pretty convincing. I might have to try them out. I would really hate to lose a bottle during a crit or road race though. Mandibles grip TIGHT, maybe even excessively so, but it is reassuring.

No I'm demo testing wheels from a local wheel builder. "H plus son" rims 23mm wide with chris king R45 hubs laced with CX ray sapim spokes (24F/28R). She is giving me 4 wheels to demo for free. Still not crazy about the tires but, they are new and came on the demo wheels. Went on 20 mile ride today and the wheels feel much stiffer than my boyds. The hubs feel smoother and seem to engage better also. Not crazy about the chris king free hub sound, but I can deal with it while I demo them for the next week. They are heavier than my boyds, but she is trying to break my Weight wennie mentality that a SUPER light weight wheelset isn't always beneficial.

@Jtwilson-I swapped out my vredesteins for specialized turbo 25mm's. LOVED my Fredesteins though and will go back to them if my specialized turbo's dont pan out for me.

(Sorry for wall with bad background, was all i could find before loading it up to come home)

Yeah, I have ridden some pretty bumpy roads and still haven't come close to losing a bottle. I was scared about it also, but they are perfect. cant beat them IMHO for the price and weight.

Nagrom_ 02-27-13 08:53 PM

Those archetypes look sweet on your supersix. Was a close competitor for my wheel build, but went with A23's for a bit of weight savings.

Nice. Looking at the Fredstein site, I will admit I am intrigued, but I have been so happy with the GP4Ks I don't know if I can bear to switch. Maybe I will try their tubulars. The wheels look nice, and I have always wanted to try CK hubs, but it's hard to stomach the fixster association with H+Son. I am very interested in the Pacenti SL23 rims that ergott is starting to use [even though I keep wanting to say Placenta SL23].

bianchi10 02-27-13 09:19 PM

I think I am trying the pacenti SL23 wheels next actually! All I can say is I got over 5k miles on my vredesteins without a single flat. They still have a little bit of life left so I'm holding onto them just in case I have a situation where one of my specialized turbo's blowout or something. AND....I LOVED the look of the vredestein side wall, and dislike the conti's, but thats all aesthetics and not performance.

jtwilson 02-27-13 11:00 PM

I am not a fan of the GP4Ks aesthetically either. The tread pattern just seems kinda cheesy and overwrought. I wish they had a more traditional tread like the file pattern on the Conti Comps. My Vittoria SC tubulars are wearing out pretty quick - I'll try Fredsteins next on those wheels.

bikerjp 02-27-13 11:03 PM

I have been very happy with the ride of the GP4000s. If you don't like the way they look you are spending too much time not moving.

I agree, but I don't think aesthetics are ever off-limits for discussion. I don't think I will ever switch to another all-around training/racing clincher tire because they are just That Good. The latest pair I run on my CAAD10's Fulcrum Racing Zeros, and with Vittoria latex tubes they are just mind-blowing in the ride quality department. Silky smooth.
