Yes, the usual suspects. I am meticulous with my bike maintenance and those are the first things I check. Sorry, but it is definitely the bearing/shell interface that creaks.

I'm familiar with the mysterious creaks. Have learned to ignore them ... then lube them. "Hear" today, gone tomorrow.
Where did all the blue Caad's go? Is there a Cannondale heaven?

FWIW, i had clicking/creaking on my Synapse alloy (almost the same bike) that didn't go away even after bearing replacement by a Cannondale authorized shop. Turned out it was the crankset itself that was making noise. The shop RMA'd the crankset, installed a new one off a bike on the sales floor, and no noise at all since then (it's been more than a year).

As I've said before, I am meticulous with my maintenance. I do my own wrenching and regularly dismantle my bike for general maintenance (at least once a year).

Same experience after a few thousand kilometers on two different BB30 cranks (FSA and currently SRAM). And no, it's not the cranks. My cranks were/are fine.

ok, and now my deep thoughts on BB30.
It's time to reboot your Scientific Method. If you're the mechanic each time, maybe it's time to let someone else (fresh set of eyes) look at the problem?

Step one is verify the BB shell is in spec, no dents or warps, bearing pockets are concentric, etc. If you don't have the proper measuring tools, find a tool and die machinist that does. Same goes for the BB spindle. A little galling where the bearing seats is enough to cause the problem.

Parts swapping isn't getting it done, so time to try something new, right? My local UCI mechanic says the preload washers are critical. My first BB30 wrenching experience is next month, so maybe you can help me, then.

Good for you Sarals, glad you chose the 10-3 CAAD. Please post some pics in 50+ for the N+1 when you get the chance. Unless you find you have a problem you should just use the stock crankset and BB. FSA isn't it? My BB30 on te 10-4 Rival with the SRAM crankset/BB has been trouble free so far.

I'd love to have one for commuting, gravel roads, and easy trails. I also want to experience SRAM, so I was going to build it up with SRAM.

Alright my fellow CAAD lovers. I've search and search and haven't found an answer I'm not satisfied with regarding max tire width that a CAAD9 will accept. I know 25mm tires will work, but how about 28mm like Continental's 4-season tire?

I ask for a couple reasons. One, my CAAD9 has become the rain/crap-road bike now that its overshadowed by an EVO. And two, friend of mine starting talking about riding D2R2, which is a ride in Deerfield, MA, that is mostly on dirt/gravel roads. For that, I'm not quite sure whether the CAAD9 is the best choice even with 28mm tires. From reading ride reports, sounds like a cross bike is the way to go (and the wife doesn't understand how I could possibly need 3 bikes.)

Educate her. Mind doesn't either but I just got a caadx for all the rides the nice bikes can't (or shouldn't) do. As for 28mm tires I think it will be close. With 25s there is still room on mine so "maybe" but without mounting one hard to know. More than frame/fork clearance I'm wondering if brakes could be an issue. It will definitely be a pain to change tires/wheels as the quick release on mine doesn't even open enough to clear 25mm tires with a standard (i.e. not 23mm) rim.

I mounted a 28C on a R500 and tested it on my CAAD9, it seemed ok but I didn't roll with it. Very tight, so I'm assuming any wheel flex will cause problems. I have a CAADX and will use that for my gravel-road race. Go for it and you can cyclocross as well :).

I'm picking up the '10 CAAD9 Tiagra next month but there's part of me thats wanting to go for '13 CAAD10 105.

Been doing MTB'ng for years so I really got no idea about road bikes (been riding regularly with roadie friends using my 29er though), this is gonna be my first road bike. The CAAD9's paint scheme (magnesium white) isn't that appealing to me, I like CAAD10's (Black/silver) more. Price difference is $345 (CAAD10 being more expensive).

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

iFold....you don't need advice, you need to get that CAAD10-5. You said yourself you don't even like the CAAD9. On top of that you are looking at three year old tiagra vs current 105? Get the 10. I am getting a new 10 soon myself, I am waiting for the 2014 models to come out before I jump on something though.

Of course, you'll only understand after you put that thing to good use. CAAD10 is my race bike as well. Absolutely love it.

I rode it 34 miles the day after I picked it up with a "close, but..." setup and the stock Aksium wheels. It wasn't right, but I could see greatness right under the surface - really, I could! The Cosmics went on it this afternoon, and I've only taken it out for a five mile ride. It's not the same bike. It's a race machine, period. High strung, light, fun - and fast! I absolutely love my CAAD 10.

Congratulations Sarals, that is one beautiful CAAD, the wheelset swap sounds like it made a positive difference. Keep us posted in 50+ on what you do with the new CAAD.
