Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

No saddle-bar drop kinda looks weird.

They work well enough for things of this weight. They're only good to ±10g, so not incredibly accurate for small things.

Bikes: 2014 CAAD10 3 (Ninja Stealth)

Hi CAADies,

Long time reader, first time poster. I bought me a 2013 CAAD10 5 105 in Black/RAW in feb and have only done about 10 rides on it (max 35km in one go) due to holidays, and new baby. Just getting into cycling. Picture in the dessert is when i picked up my bike in Feb and went straight out to do a 10km ride. The other one was taken today at home.

I haven't seen too many people on posts that have upgraded this colour. just wanted some thoughts or advice on what to upgrade as time goes on as i am a newbie. 34 years old and 85-90 kg.

I really want to keep things uniform with the Silver & Black (possibly White) colour theme. A splash of colour would be great but there is no red, blue or green on the bike. i am getting some custom built wheels in the next month or so:

Black Rims, with Black Spokes, With Black Nipples, with Black GP4000s tyres. Was going with Black or Silver hubs, but am deciding on Red or Blue Chis King r45 hub set. maybe to get some red or blue matching bar tape and saddle. any thoughts? or should i just keep the hubs black.

Was looking at in the near future, getting (but the colours would depend on the colour of the hubs i actually get:
Fizik Arione CX Black Saddle (Red or Blue, or white depending on hubs)
Bar Tape (again colours will be decided later)
Already have 105 black pedals
Already have White Specialized Pro Carbon Shoes (they didn't have black)
Silver/Raw Seat post (may stick with Black though)
I wanted to get a Chris King Bottom Bracket, and a Chris King Headset but something that will match the Chris King hubset that i get. Any thoughts on if these are any good?

i love the bike and would recommend it to anyone. Actually, i am getting my wife one, after 6 months when she wants to shift the pregnancy weight. My bro in law wants one as well.

Any thoughts on the above? any Cult members have this bike colour and have upgraded it (would love to see pics). i wanted the Black and White Matte frame but wasn't available in 105. That would have been easy to colour co-ordinate. with this, i can't find silver bar tape, or silver brake and gear cables.

Thanks in advance. there are some beautiful CAADs on here.

I would stay within black/silver/white scheme. For hubs silver>black>white would be the order of preference.

As for other questions, I'll just copy your words in bold and respond in regular text:

Fizik Arione CX Black Saddle (Red or Blue, or white depending on hubs) - First make sure that the Arione actually fits you. If it does, I would go for black with white stripe.
Bar Tape (again colours will be decided later) - Black with white finishing tape and keep the white bar end plugs.
Silver/Raw Seat post (may stick with Black though) - It's one of those ideas that sound good on paper but don't really turn out that good once you try them. See if you can borrow a silver post just to see if you like it.
I wanted to get a Chris King Bottom Bracket, and a Chris King Headset but something that will match the Chris King hubset that i get. Any thoughts on if these are any good? - They are very good, but do you really need to replace perfectly fine functioning parts? Headset is fully integrated and completely invisible, and you really have to look to notice the bottom bracket. Just leave them as is until they wear out.

You haven't mentioned bottle cages - I think Elite Custom Race standard black with white print would look good, or just any glossy black cage that you like.

I found it at the Toronto Bike Show last fall, neglected in the corner of a small out of town bike shop's booth. Luckily it was my size and it was a good deal! Got fitted, got some new-to-me Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL wheels on and enjoying every ride! I don't see many in the Liquigas colors in Toronto, usually black/white and red/black ones.
Very nice!

Welcome raatty....I think you're on the right track. when you say splash....keep it simple, some people can go over board with red. red splashes will look good on your bike....red hubs and maybe some bottles cages with red on them. red seatpoast clamp maybe....but getting red bar tape for that bike I think would take away from it. Stay with black saddle and black bar tape....for a raw seatpost look at the Thomson seatpost for that.

one thing you will learn in cycling and can get help on this forum is how to shop and find thigs for your bike. eBay is your friend....if you don't have an account get one...go to ebay and type in silver bar tape and take your pick. Don't be afraid o ask questions....everyone started where you are.

Fiery & Seymour1910,

Thanks for the comments. maybe a red saddle and bar type would be over board. I like the idea of the white finishing tape. i don't think that i can try anything out over here regarding saddles or seatposts, but i will ask my lbs. I have heard good things about the arione, but your right Fiery, i don't know if it is right for me. The first point of call will be the wheels. just need to decide on hub colour - Red, Black, or Silver.

Its difficult to get stuff from ebay or amazon to Dubai due to shipping costs. After i bought the bike in Feb, i went to London to visit my family and bought a whole load of stuff to bring back. choice and prices are better in the UK than Dubai (for cycling stuff at least) and i get the 20% tax back as well. Woo Hoo. i got the shoes, pedals, saddle bag, lezyne pump, lezyne lights, inner tubes, tools, puncture repair, helmet, bib shorts etc.

I order some stuff from the UK to here as well. just as long as i spend over 50 pounds, delivery is free (depending on website).

If anyone has done, what i am going to do to this colour frame, please post pictures.

Going for my first 45km group ride tomorrow morning. did a 35km group ride last friday. looking forward to it.

@RAATTY

The first pic is of my bike with mavic wheels and elite cages. I swapped out the bars for some FSA compact bars but thats about it for the upgrades for it.

This is not my bike ,it looks like the force model with Zipp wheels.

understood on the shipping to Dubai....I have been to the UAE three times while in the Navy and I love it there. Fizik does make a silver bar tape so if you can get Fizik products from the UK you may be fine.

as for members with your bike going custom, from what I have seen not many people have changed more than the wheels on that bike. Most just stay with the black and silver. I will admit that it will be harder to get bargains where you are, but not impossible.

Bocksta - Thanks for the pics . i saw a couple of them on the forum a while ago. I think that i may keep the Black / Silver RAW theme going. but the red hubs do look cool. Like KITT with the Red light on the Black bonnet
I saw the elite cages on a fe bikes and they have enough colours so will get those when i start some century rides and need two bottles. the specialized silver will do for now. The elite cages make the bikes look aggressively futuristic in a Star Trek sort of way.

Black Hubs, Silver Hubs, Red Hubs...Black Hubs, Silver Hubs, Red Hubs...Black Hubs, Silver Hubs, Red Hubs...Black Hubs, Silver Hubs, Red Hubs... - -Still deciding

seymour - dunno when the last time came was, but the place changes everyday. I went to london for easter, came back, and a new road was completed meaning i had to drive in the other direction and turn back taking an extra 20 mins to get home. i'll check the fizik silver, but may just stick to the black tape (with possible white finishing tape as Fiery suggested)

thanks for the responses and pics. would love to see more of these colour schemes.

Nice - i am starting to like the whole Black/Silver theme a bit more. But ... i am drawn to some shiny red hubs. Even if that is the only colour on the bike.

Nice bike! One thought - dump those tires and get some decent ones, like Continental GP4000S or something. I dumped those stock tires within a month, even before I read CAAD-10 reviews that complained about them.

And here I thought there weren't going to be any Caads at the show. Fuuu!@#

My eyes were peeled for CAADs at the show and was disappointed how few there were! The one I got was probably one of five in the entire room. Tons of road bikes from Trek, Cervelo, Specialized, etc but relatively few from Cannondale. I did see a few Cannondale SuperSix bikes available, but those were beyond my budget.

Dave - already ordered them from UK for a good deal about 1 week ago. should arrive next week. i was going backwards and forwards between GP4000s and Schwalbe Ultremo with silver stripes. I am happy with the current lugano tyres as i don't really know what better ones are gonna do. will probably wait to wear these out though. that way in a couple of months, when the new custom wheels arrive, i'll have some brand new rubber to put on them

Beautiful. I've always loved the 2011 paintjobs, especially the raw alu one.

Does anyone know how the di2 cables are routed in the Black Inc caad10? I found a thread over on weightweenies showing the cables in the bottom bracket but my question is how are they routed from where they enter the top tube to the bottom bracket. Doesn't the seatpost get in the way?

Asking bc I have a chance to buy a Ultegra Di2 kit for a great price and I'd like to route the cable internally at least for the handlebar to bb run. Thanks for any help!

Just picked this up 2 weeks ago to use as my commuter/ B Bike. Loving the ride.

EDIT 1999 R1000D (CAAD3 with a Slice Echelon CF fork). The rear Ultegra Derailleur was bent to hell (drop out was fine), so I put a Sora short cage derailleur on it till I can source an Ultegra of the right vintage (Just for consistency with the rest of the Ultegra group on it. I know pretty much almost any Shimano Derailleur will work)

The Black Inc CAAD10 is the only CAAD10 setup for internal electronics. It won't except internal mechanical either.

You could run it externally, but I'm not sure how that is done.
