Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

The 2014 10-5 is a nice bike, I can see why he would call it BBQ, it's a mixture of black and grey so....

2014 BBQ is on point.
Gives 2012 BBQ a run for its money. Almost.

My BBQ CAAD9 was anodized. Is this still the case with the new CAADs or do they paint them now?

Very nice, that is an FSA K-Force seatpost...very nice, and light, but of course not cheap.

Anyone done any touring on their CAAD10?

Not looking at doing anything crazy. I want to start grocery shopping by back, which means I'll be purchasing a bike rack and cheap panniers. If the CAAD10 frame could hold it, I wouldn't mind loading up the panniers with one of my brothers lightweight sleeping bags and a tarp and doing a 2 day, 1 night tour ride for a weekend or two this spring. I don't want to warp the CAAD10 frame or anything. I love my CAAD10 frame, but I understand this is not what they are designed for. Just curious if anyone has, or knows someone who has, experience with touring on a CAAD10 frame.

Otherwise, I'll stick to a very basic rack/pannier set-up for grocery shopping and the like.

I own a Caad 8 Optimo and have ridden a Caad 10. I can't imagine putting racks on either. I'd sooner buy a $50 CL bike for riding to the grocery store than risk damaging "my baby". Just my opinion.

Any suggestions for tires will be great. Also looking for advise for a lightweight SPD pedal. Thanks.
I put some Schwalbe Ultremos on to race with - they felt so good that I pretty much just left them on for most of the season. You definitely pay more, but relative to what you'd pay for a carbon anything, I found it to be a huge upgrade. Plus you can get the Ultremos in a bunch of different colors to bling out your CAAD.

What's the weight on the FSA K-Force Light seatpost?

Exactly what I was afraid of. I baby my CAAD10. Didn't know if it would be up to the task of doing light touring, but just figured I'd ask. I'd just be doing 40-60 miles out, sleep, and then 40-60 miles back.

I'll be using my dad's mountain bike as my grocery commuter. I already commute on it most every day. Just add a rack and a pannier or two for groceries and I wouldn't have any more excuses.

Unless there's a reason you want to spend the night at the other end, pack lighter and do the whole 100ish miles in one day. You can do a century on a CAAD10, that much we do know.

My only reasons were to:
1. Justify a set of grocery panniers and rack.
2. Riding 40 miles on a day is about what my body can do.
- Rode 40 miles Saturday. I could've done more, but I need to sort out my saddle issue before I continue much further.
3. I'm "in-season" for running most of the fall, winter, and spring, so I can't train cycling extensively. I figured a 80 mile weekend touring would be closer to what I could handle than a single 80 mile day.

I have a friend who rides with a group on Sunday mornings. I've heard it's a slow, but long group (60+ miles). I hope to join in with them once I come off of my training break. Perhaps that will satisfy my cycling needs without adversely affecting my running performance.

Plus, every now and then I see loaded tourers riding through our town or down the highway (HWY 50 - Missouri) and think "man, I want to do that". There was a pack of 4 headed east while I was on my way home this weekend.

Bikes: 2014 CAAD10 3 (Ninja Stealth)

Dear CAADies,

I have been waiting for my 2014 CAAD10 Ultegra in Black for over 7 weeks. The cannondale shop today said that they are having difficulties with the order that should have taken 3 weeks. And they said that they would refund my 75% deposit that i had put down. they don't know when they will get the bike in.

Should i go for either a 2014 Canyon Ultimate AL 9.0 Ultegra or
a 2014 Specialized Allez Expert Ultegra or
wait indefinitely for my CAAD (i loved my 2013 CAAD10 105 that i sold to buy the Ultegra)

i don't want to incite blasphemy, but i need a bike. If anyone has either of the above bikes, please talk me back into waiting for the CAAD10! both the other bikes can be with me in 7-10 days!!

help a fellow CAAD brother from another mother out!!

Supposedly they won't be making a new shipment until after February according to my LBS, this was told to me in September.

OP - I totalled my frame and couldn't get a replacement. I feel your pain being bikeless. I solved my problem with eBay. You'll find a beautiful CAAD 10 at a great price with a satisfaction guarantee. Once you go CAAD, u can't go BAAK.

Has anyone got the 2014 10-4 yet? I don't know why I'm asking other than to torture myself when I see it. I love that bike.

You paid a deposit on a bicycle the shop cannot produce and they're going to keep 25%?

no. out of the 100% cost of the bike, i put a 75% deposit down. the LBS will return the full deposit. they didn't ask for such a large deposit, but i gave it coz i knew that i would spend it.
