I just measured the C2 I took out of my CAAD when I replaced it with the carbon Cyrano.
It's 300mm.

Well, forum rules state that if you bring it up, you have to tell the story! :innocent:

PhotoJoe 01-28-11 06:44 PM

That made me laugh. I personally don't think YOU were unethical. I know there is a debate on CL ethics, however, if he said you're the first and come see it, I think he owed it to you for the first right of refusal. I'm not sure I would have had the 'nads to do what you did, but respect it immensely. :thumb:

BTW, will you take $600? :innocent:

Don't stress it. Mine is not cut.
As for cutting it, the guys at ww (WeightWeenies) would be better equipped to answer that.
Why cut it? To save a few grams (the wait of a couple of business cards?)?
My opinion: Leave it as is. Better safe than sorry.
:)

The bike was posted on a Friday morning at about 8:15am and I noticed it around 8:25. $500, no actual photo just a statement that it was in new condition, under 300 miles. So I call the guy and he says nobody had looked at it, come on down and its yours. I said I'll be there in 30 minutes.

So I hop in the car and drive clear across town to the guy's house. I pull up to his driveway and there is another guy standing there with a check in his hand talking to the seller. I am pissed, obviously. I get out and the seller says sorry he got here first I'm selling it to him. I asked the kid if he was paying with a check, he said yes. So I offer the seller $550 cash. He fumbles some words, a little uneasy about the proposition. The other buyer chimes in, he offers to write a $550 check. So I get my cash out, walk up to the guy and put it in his hands.

Next thing I know I'm loading the bike in my trunk and the seller brings out an unopened set of Speedplay cleats for me to use with the pedals that came on the bike. The other buyer is shell-shocked, and he runs over offering to buy the bike from me for $575. I said sorry, but no thanks, and drove away.

Nothing unethical about that.
I picked up a set of Dura-Ace 7800 shifters for $135. that were practically new "take-offs" like that.
I didn't try to nickel & dime the guy. I told him I'd be happy to give him the original asking price, no negotiation.
He even dropped the price $10. for me being so pleasant and then another $5. on the day I picked them up.
He was happy to sell them to me.

:D You did good!

Guys! Should I pull the trigger on a 2011 Cannondale CAAD10-4 !?!?

I been researching for the last 6 months. And Spring is around the corner.

$1,700 with either 10% off or 10% back instore credit on bike clothings.

No issues cutting it, in fact there are frames on the market I've heard of which recommend no more than 100mm of seat post insertion. The clamp is what actually holds the seat post, so as long as that area is ok, you will be fine.

Obviously measure three times and cut once. As far as the actual cutting, use a fine toothed hack saw blade, mask off the area to be cut, and afterwards apply some clear nail polish to finish off the cut site and you should be fine. Park Tools has a great article on the subject as always.

If you have to ask...

I have a 10-4 buried a few pages back, it's a great bike you will not be disappointed.

Where are you from? In San Francisco, there is no CAAD10-5 under $1,400 and no CAAD10-4 under $1,700.

I would love to get a CAAD10-4 for $1,500 including tax.

You need to ask "lechat" (Post #791).

Mainly just refinement. The 9 has a stiffer bottom bracket and chainstays. And probably more durable overall.

I am getting the CAAD10 5. The specs say that the tire size is 700x23c. Will this spare tube fit? http://www.performancebike.com/bikes..._1034747_-1___

It says the size is 700x23-26. I am not sure if 23-26 means that it will fit anything in that range or is a specific number. Also, is that a pretty durable tube?

I have agreed for the shop to add those rubber linings between the tube and the tire as well to make them thorn resistant. I don't know if this was a good idea or if it will make the bike ride too stiff. Would like to hear some opinions on this, as well as the accurate name for that part.

Yes it'll fit, but don't get that tube. Get a good quality tube (like a Continental Race Lite) for only $2.00 more.
Matter of fact, buy at least 4 tubes. 2 to replace the tubes that come with your bike, and 2 spares
(one you carry and one you have at home to replace the one you use on the road if you get a flat).
You'll avoid a lot of headaches by getting good tubes and the price difference is negligible.

hkboy313 01-29-11 07:40 PM

ya it sound ok but be careful with pinching. when the shop gives my tubes they run 18 or 19 - 23c i think.

Since I drooled through this whole thread, I HAVE to get my 98 R200 CAAD2 out... I'm 12 weeks post Total Knee Replacement, riding my hybrid on the indoor trainer, and planning to hit the trails with my MTB. But after this thread, I need to get that R200 out and put it on the trainer instead. Originally bought for my wife in 98, she wanted a triple crankset, so we splurged and upgraded to 105 triple and front derraileur. All the bike needs is tires/tubes, brake pads and bar tape. And a real good cleaning. Maybe a pic of it dirty later today.
