I haven't looked at CAAD bikes or ridden any, but after reading this, http://www.nytimes.com/2014/07/27/sp...rder.html?_r=0, I think I might give it a try. I'm looking for an endurance bike that can climb hills with an 11-28 or 12-30 cassette. Cannondale makes the CAAD and Synapse AL alloy. What's the difference between the two types of aluminum?

I was wondering how dose the crank option worked? I went to look at Caad10 and it had the size 50/34 on it and I want the 53/39. Yesterday I was told it was a complete swap and today I was told today for a 53/34 crank it would be 700 dollars more.

I think he was asking if there is a difference in the aluminum used to build the two bikes. I know the current CAAD10 usses 6069 aluminum and the Synapse uses 6061. I will not pretend to know how much difference there is in the two.
anyone?? |

Which CAAD were you looking at. 50/34 is a compact crank and does seem to come on more bikes these days. A standard crank is 53/39. I also prefer a standard but it's really flat where I live. If I lived in an area where I would have to do a lot of hills I would go compact. Aside from that you can definately go from a compact to a standard for less than $700....bike shops are just insane with the pricing IMO.

But The guy from Monday told me it would be a even swap. And I was wondering if they did that?

For $700 more you could buy a lot better bike.

Or you could buy a Hollowgram standard crankset and swap between the two if you travel to hillier or flatter areas for riding. It shouldn't cost anything to swap. The CAAD10s are offered in both standard and compact, so as long as the dealer had the second crankset, they should be able to do it. If they don't swap it for free, I wouldn't be buying from them. |
a few more changes from last time... i need to take a better pic with the new uno stem.

anyone?? There's really 3 types of aluminum alloys used in bikes. 6061, 6069 and 7005 6xxx series alloys are aluminum with primarily mangesium and silicon 7xxx series alloys are aluminum with primarily zinc 6061 aluminum is generally 96% or more aluminum with the next highest elemental ingredient being magnesium at up to 1.2% 6069 aluminum is generally 96% or more aluminum with the next highest elemental ingredient being magnesium at up to 1.6% figure the main difference is a slight decrease in weight, and slight increase in stiffness and hardness with no major change to ductility. 7005 uses zinc. without getting into a ton of specifics, 7005 is stiffer and harder but more brittle. |

Paid $1200 for a 2013 CAAD10 5, a bit overpriced but I didn't want to waste this summer so I bought it. Sold the wheels for $100 after I bought a different wheelset.
Anyway, congrats and post pictures of your new bike! Which shop did you buy from? |

Remove the spacers...set the hoods so they are level with the floor to start. A -17 would be level with the ground.

CAAD10 3 Ultegra

Picked up a CAAD10 3 in May this year. Great bike, have ridden quite a few long rides including a century. Compared with my old Le Mond its much more fun and not really any harsher. The bike weighed in at 17 pounds with the wheels and pedals. I still commute on the LeMond.
Only complaints were the seat and wheelset. I built a set with H plus Son Archetypes and White Industry hubs. The ride is great. http://bikeforums.net/attachment.php...hmentid=396742 |
