Rms13, you probably mean effect on the "handling". None. Just less seatpost showing - aesthetics.

Yes that's what I mean. So you want a frame that is less technologically advanced so you can have more seat post showing? Although more seatpost is fashionable, I would like having less (especially with no weight penalty) is preferable for integrity of the seat post

Bluechip 09-06-15 07:30 PM

I don't think the actual sizing has changed much at all except they seem to have gone back to a more horizontal top tube. They have changed the measuring of the seat tube from center of bb to the top of the top tube (the previous way) to center of bb to top of seat tube (current way).

I doubt I would have noticed the change if I hadn't seen this post. I look at the top tube length with more interest than the seat tube.

Right, cause it has no effect on fit or handling

Skidurts 09-06-15 08:37 PM

I estimate that for my size (54) on the CAAD 10, I would have 5 inches of seat post exposed. On the CAAD 12, even going down a size to 52, I would only have 3 inches seat post showing. On a 54, 2.5 inches! This is serious Fred territory. Of course I can't go down to a size 50 or I'd have a tower of headset spacers. I can't understand why Cannondale is doing this. They switched to smaller diameter seatposts supposedly for more compliance but then force riders to use 2 inches less seat post. Shorter posts are stiffer than longer posts, so it just negates the compliance gained by the smaller diameter.

Take a look at the geometry charts. They changed a lot - seat angle, head angle, rake, wheelbase, top tube, seat tube. Nearly everything changed.

Bluechip 09-06-15 08:59 PM

Top tube on my size(56cm) went up 1mm. Wheelbase down 4mm. Headtube angle up .1 degree. Chainstay up 3mm And those were the biggest changes. Head tube height is the same. Seat tube angle the same. Overall very minor differences. The seat tube is probably the same too if you measured it the same way as before.

Skidurts 09-06-15 09:48 PM

There's no need to guess since you have your bike at hand. Can you measure the seat tube center of bb to top of the seat tube clamp? It's listed as 58.5cm on geometry chart for the Caad 12 on size 56 frame.

Bluechip 09-07-15 04:22 AM

CAAD9 56cm -seat tube in geometry chart is listed as 54cm center to top of top tube. Center to top of seatpost is 57cm.

I believe the seat tube is now measured to the top of seat tub collar instead of to the top of the top tube.

Anyone ever convert caad8/9/10 to SS? If so did they post here?

I Love my synapse, I love my Dawes SST AL freewheel single speed but it's a tank. If I invest in wheels etc I'll just spring for a Wabi Lightning. However I could also build up a Caad and just use spacers a cog and a tension pulley. No not really interested in Capo or Caad10 track. Its a rural street machine and Freewheel single speeding is just enjoyable simplicity of cycling. Yet I still want that hot rod. Minus the gears. I mean we are talking +/- 1000' in 40 miles.

If you do it, post photos.

My old 3.0 has been a fixed gear for 10+ years. I've thought about converting my CAAD9 if I end up upgrading bikes. My Eno hub is 126 spaced so I would need a new one in 130. I would love to find a nice Capo with dual bottle holders but the prices people are asking seems too high. It's not like they are the sought after Cannondale Tracks from the 90's.

I saw this the other day CANNONDALE CAAD 9 ROAD BIKE FRAME SET 54CM Cannondale Caad 9 Road Bike Frame Set 54cm | eBay

I still have my Premium Slice carbon steerer fork from my crashed 2006 R1000 caad8. All I have for wheels are RS10's yuk but they'd do for now. I could use the old 6600 stuff, Levers for brakes, 6600 brake calipers. Then just go 53/ 18-20.... I am not sure. I hated 46/16 here. 48/16 wasn't too terrible, but 48/17 is what I stuck with. Still cheaper than buying a Wabi Lightning... better though? I dunno is Gala apple better than a fuji apple? I'd think the caad would be more my style. Just like I always buy the fuji apples over gala. ;)

This is My Dawes. (as close to capo as I can get probably) It's fun its just heavy A nice set of tires and Wabi wheelset Sub15 @ 1475g would help it out a lot.
but it isn't a caad, considering my loop is 20 miles I ride the Dawes more often than Cannondale. I take synapse on 30+, However If I could get a 17-18 lb Caad9 SS. Is that realistic? The synapse might not ever go out again, lol

Yes, that should be pretty easy. My CAAD9 comes in a 17.5 lbs with Sram Force group. My 3.0 fixed gear comes in at just under 17 lbs with only a front brake.

My Criterium 2.0's derailleur hanger broke, which precipitated me converting it to SS and buying my CAAD10. It's been a learning curve, and obviously the tension pulley wasn't and option, but after a lot of trial and error a 46x16 gear works out perfect for chainline. With 25c tires and bullhorns, it works out great as a commuter.

Hi, I'm new to the forum but not to CAAD, had a CAAD9 a few years back and just picked up a 10 shortly before the 12 was announced but glad I did, I'll no doubt save up the pennies and acquire a 12 at some point and treasure the last of the 10's.
Anyway, just had a week off work to blow some overtime money and get some upgrades done, just need to source some wheels now but require funds, had my mind set on Ksyrium sls's but I've read some bad press of late regards rims cracking and regular spoke replacement?

If I were going to convert a CAAD, I'd use a White Industries ENO hub and skip the chain tensioner.

Very nice? Have you taken it for any long rides yet? Have you had a CAAD before to give a fair comparison? If I get a 12 this is the one I want. What size is yours?

I used to ride a CAAD9 4. I took it on a 40 mile ride yesterday with a 19mph avg and a good bit of climbing. The size is a 60 and fits me perfectly I am 6'2 with a 34 inseam. I also have an entry level carbon scott solace. In comparison, this thing is the best ride I've had. I always thought my CAAD9 was a bit rough and this thing felt like butter on the road minus the saddle need to swap it out never been a fan of the arione. So, if you wanna get technical i believe cannondales claims on compliance. It also climbs fantastic. It felt plenty stiff when I needed it to respond. I hope this helps.
