Yes, shifters, FD, RD, and chain are all required, go ahead and get the dual pivot brakes too as they are a significantly easier pull; you do not need to change the crank as I rode a 6700 crank with 5800 for a long time with very minimal change in shifting when I bought the 6800 crank, probably because it had 10k fewer miles on it. It's a huge increase in feel, mainly on downshifting because the ratcheting barrel inside the lever more accurately returns to optimal alignment, compared to 10-speed. It's like comparing the paddle shift trans in my Acura (sloppy, slow) to a Ferrari trans (crisp), feels more expensive.

I just bought this same frame this morning, so I guess I have officially joined the lost boys from the land of aluminumia... I am seriously excited about building this thing up after hearing so many great things and enjoying the test ride. Many of your posts helped seal the deal, so thank you. As of right now, I am thinking Ritchey carbon cockpit and seatpost, Specialized Toupe or Power saddle, Shimano Ultegra Di2 groupset (or SRAM etap, but I hear it won't be available until like April unfortunately). Looking for advice on aero carbon clinchers. What width seems to work best with these frames? Any recommendations?

Hey fellow CAAD owners, I posted in a separate thread on the road forum but thought Id post here. My beloved CAAD7, after 12 years of service, is no more, suffering a cracked rear dropout. To my surprise, Cannondale is replacing it under warranty with a CAAD10. I haven't seen the frame but am told it is BBQ black. What exactly is BBQ referring to? I have seen some descriptions implying its a specific color scheme, others indicating its a type of finish. The LBS I am working with didn't know. My best guess is that I am getting the frame used on the 2015 105 level bike, which is black with gray and white accents,(pic) but its possible its a frame from an earlier year.

In my estimation it's both. It's looks anodized, and the color is a matte not-quite-black, not-quite-brown. It's hard to describe. Anyway it's not ugly or flashy or anything, it just is. You'll be ok with it, congrats on the new CAAD10, they're awesome.

What size seat post collar would I need for a 2013 CAAD10? I've seen a range of 30.6 to 30.9.
The one that was stock seems to be be bent and the bolt is pinching it too tight.
Want to replace it as well as the stock seatpost (upgrade to carbon).

Need a new seatpost clamp for my 2013 CAAD10. The Cannondale one is pretty much crap.
Cannondale said it uses a 30.9mm. Can't find any that size. Should work. Wish Thomson made one that size.
Anyone have good recs for high quality clamps/collars? Also want to get a carbon seatpost.

Buying my 1st Cannodale. Coming from a flatbar Giant hybrid, for the last year.
Will I likely be more comfortable on longer rides with a 2015 CAAD 8 or 2015 CAAD 10 ?? I've found a great deal on either machine. The LBS offers a GURU fit included. If it matters I'm 60yo, fairly fit, not as limber as a 30yo.

I'm concerned about the frame geometry difference between these two bikes. Any thoughts ..

Both the caad8 and caad10 are race specific bikes, so they have fairly short head tubes. If you look for comfort (or you have concerns about your flexibility), I'd suggest to get the synapse (what is an amazing bike also).

In general you can look at the "stack" of the bike in the geometry tables. Higher the number, the more upright/comfortable position can be achieved. Obviously you can move the handlebars up with a stem, but it's better to pick the right bike.

The CAAD10 is a race bike, the geometry is aggressive. If you are more concerned with comfort, the CAAD8 is slightly better. If you want a more comfort based bike, you will need to look at the Cannondale Synapse. Not sure if your dealer has one of those for you to try, but it's worth looking at if comfort is on your buying criteria.

Thanks for the "Stack" info. I did a parking lot ride on the Synapse, it just didn't feel quite right.
I also rode the CAAD 10 & 8, the 10 felt the best to me, this was however a short ride around a parking lot.
I left a deposit in the 10 then came home and starting reading online about the "Aggressive Geometry" and started second guessing my decision.

Yes, if you prefer a more "upright" sitting position, you will have to go with a bike built that way. The Synapse is just one of many. The Giant Defy also fits this range. Trust me, in this thread, we love our CAAD's, but none of us would tell you to buy a bike that doesn't suit your specific needs/wants/goals. I suggest going back and asking if you can have another ride on the Synapse and CAAD10 for a little longer distance, not just the parking lot.

I'm thinking perhaps I need to just "Harden Up" a bit ...I loved the feel of that 10 :-)

Is the seatpost on the 2013 a 27.2? If so you will need a 31.8 clamp.

If the seatpost is 31.6 you will need a 34.9 clamp. Hope this helps. You LBS may have clamps laying arounf that they'll give you, or sell pretty cheap.

I rode the Synapse this morning and it felt like my Giant Escape 3, very upright. I rode the CAAD 8 as well as the 10 again...I bought the CAAD 8, I'm not convinced that I could feel the difference between the 8 & 10. The psychological effect of knowing the geometry of the 8 was more "Heads-Up" made it feel more comfortable.

Just joined today! Was going to get this or a Giant- the 16 TCR Advanced 3. The ride is so close to carbon smooth. Just under 18pds as shown 17.15 pds 48cm

Question- why is 1st peddle of the CAAD so much harder/takes more effort than my Alloy Synapse. Is it designed that way for the rider to put more torque in the peddle effort? I am using the same ring/gear on both bike in my tests.
The Synapse spins up faster, the Caad takes more effort overall.

If all things are equal I don't think there should be a difference. Are they both compact cranks? Same cassette on both bikes? What wheels do you have on the bikes? Could it be a difference in the hubs?

I just took the Caad for a spin, used the lower ring and middle gears. The bike flies like a bat out of hell like a slight hill. Both both are 50/34. The wheels on the 10 are better than the Synapse. Both are compact cranks and same cassette. I imagine it just the way CDale engineers made the bike with each a little different character pedal wise.

Hi guys, I've got a 2015 CAAD10 and i'm changing the groupset over to ultegra. When i fitted the rear brake (with internal routing) i found it felt like the inner cable was rubbing on something inside the frame. Has anyone experienced this or is it the inner cable rubbing on the ferrule? Or is this down to me using too short a outer cables?

There is a way to take a cog out of the cassette and make a 8-from-9 or 9-from-10 cassette that will then fit in a 126mm space. I recommend trying that. The derailleur was properly adjusted and didn't contact the spokes when cycling through gears on the flat, but going uphill it snagged. I know this is a late response, but another warning not to respace or force in a 130mm wheel. I broke my 3.0 Criterium on the repair stand when I found the previous owner had been using 130mm wheels, and when I clamped in a correct 126mm wheel, the chainstay snapped.

That R300 is old and won't like being stretched. I'd do a 10-to-9 cassette on a 126mm hub and just set your r der limits to reflect that.
