If you search around on weight weenies you'll find some european guy whose shop was able to order him the matte black CAAD10-1 frameset, but other sources say that you cannot order that one as a frameset only. I know the white/black comes as a frameset, but not sure about the others. $900 for the frameset.

I wouldn't mind seeing a CAAD 10 in the brushed aluminum finish

Yeah, I want the matte black or brushed aluminum, otherwise I'm getting an Allez. I hope Cannondale reads that.

I'm sure it's a money issue, but I don't understand why companies don't sell their framesets in any/all available colors. I can buy all the crap on the bike from all the companies that make that crap. Problem is, I don't want all of that crap. I want a Cannondale frame with all of my stuff on it. So either let me buy YOUR stuff, give you money, and advertise for you, or don't, and I won't. /rant.

Nope. My '03 Caad7 SI is BB30. Think they predate it.

When I realized that my CAAD9 was too small, I tried to get a larger Cannondale frameset to replace it. No dice, unless you want a frameset that has "Hi-Mod" in its name. Specialized was happy to sell me an Allez frameset in the size I needed, for a fair price. I like the Allez about as much as I liked the CAAD, and it fits, so I'm happy.

At least Specialized lists the frameset as an option on their website, but there's only one color shown, so the same complaint applies. They obviously have over half dozen more colors of Allez frames that they could sell simply by not putting parts on them, right? Why can't I buy one?

VA_Esquire 11-28-11 09:35 PM

Sad to see Cannondale taking the Force crankset off...

Several reasons...first, there are two levels of Allez frames, A1 and E5, with the E5 being the better of the two. The available frameset is E5. I think (don't know) that this year's frameset is the only Allez offered in that color, so it gives it a bit of cachet - if you see an Allez that color, it's probably been built up rather than bought off the showroom floor. Also, while I'm sure Specialized sells a bunch of these framesets, it's probably a tiny percentage of the Allezs they sell - most cyclists consider aluminum frames to be entry level and want a carbon frameset...look at the threads on this board talking about no-name Chinese carbon framesets for about the same price. So it's probably not cost-efficient for Specialized to stock more than one color.

Frankly, I think that Cannondale is missing a bet by not offering the CAAD10 as a frameset in the USA. Specialized is the only game in town for a name-brand aluminum frameset.

2ndGen 11-29-11 06:42 AM

Who would pay a premium (say, $100.-$200. more) for a CAAD10 "Made In The USA"?

(I would)

Vince Canepa 11-29-11 11:02 AM

I would, but I am of the opinion that I would not pay the 2012 price considering that Cannondale has "downgraded" the component group and is producing in lower cost Asia. I could justify the increase if it was still made in the USA.

Two questions for you CAAD9 people. What FD does the 9 use? and how much tire clearance is there? could I fit some 25c tires on easy enough?

Front Derailleur is 34.9
And yes, you can go 25's on it.

Just to clarify here - I ran 700x25c Gatorskins on mine with no problem. I've since started using Michelin tires, both the Krylion and Pro Optimum, and they're wider in 700x25 than the Contis, 26.7mm vs. 24.3mm. I think the Michelins would fit, but I'd see if I could find a set of wheels with the tire you want to run and try them on your bike just to be sure.

rpeterson 11-30-11 07:36 PM

Well I've got all the wheels and tires already, I just want to know if I have to go buy some new tires or if I can just keep using what I like when the frame comes. Looks like I'll be able to keep using what I like. Thanks.

Yeah! What about when Cervelo replaced the super-hot, black alu Soloist (S1) with the grey model, and then with the uber-hideous silver and red one (sorry if anyone owns one and likes it. :p I have a 2007 grey one :) )??!! I also wasn't too crazy about the red and white one, but the current model is pretty good.

Anyway, I emailed Cervelo around 2008, telling them that if they put out a black alu Soloist again, i, along with at least half-a-dozen people I knew, would buy one (which was mostly BS, of course). Their response was almost like a 'bot email: "This year's model is grey and red. Here is out catalogue. Thanks for your interest in Cervelo" Ha! :p

Hi all, just got this right after work and it was dark so I haven`t had a chance to ride it yet. :( Spects. Caad 10-105 , 52cm, Tactix 2 computer, bone stock 18.2.bs with speedplay light action pedals on the digital bathroom scale :twitchy: Alot lighter than the Synapse I`ve been riding. I can`t wait till the sun comes up :D

BarracksSi 12-02-11 09:20 PM

Vaportrail, what size of stem is on your bike? So many people around here think that "if you're using less than 120 mm it's too short", but I try to remind them that smaller bikes come stock with shorter stems.

Vaportrail56 12-02-11 09:33 PM

Not sure what size stem, the stem says 6N-m on it and its stock.
Edit: I`m 5`10 and I rode a 52 and a 54, the 52 fit me better.

Cheep, work well and you can get them at big box stores.....If you happen to paint,,, You can do pretty much any thing you darn well please to a bike.

bianchi10 12-02-11 10:46 PM

your 5'10 and riding a 52!? If your 5'10" your saddle should be way higher if thats a 52! I know I'm not there to see it and I'm sure you test rode it to see what felt best, but I'm having a hard time seeing a 52 fitting you better than a 54.

Vaportrail56 12-02-11 10:54 PM

OK, maybe 5`9 or there about :innocent:
Edit: Those pictures where shot from a low level making the handle bars look higher than they really are.

bianchi10 12-02-11 10:57 PM

lol, ok even still. I'm 5'9" 175-180lbs and I'm on a 54. That in itself feels pretty compact. I couldn't imagine being able to ride properly on a 52. BUT like I said, I'm sure you test rode it. nice bike, enjoy!
