AFAIK, the Ultegra option would not work for me, as my CAAD 9 has a BB30.

You can do a couple things -- get a Shimano adapter for BB30, or use a Sram or FSA crank and BB made specifically for BB30. Or get a Cannondale Hollowgram BB30 crankset.

Remember, if there's an adaptation to be made, someone combined engineering and marketing expertise to make a part to sell to you. ;)

the reason why I tried buying the Gatorskinz is because of their durability and are considered high mileage tires.....are there any other tires that last longer than the Gatorskins?

Many thanks for the detailed feedback. I've book marked it for later reference.

I'm surprised that you found that much difference in the fork, and will add it to my wish list.

But first, Santa has to bring me that wheelset. My letter to the North Pole requested Soul 2.0s or Stan's - both around 1,350 grams, both in the $500/600 range.

:thumb:

Soul S2.0's were my 2nd choice. I still have them in mind.
I got an incredible deal on my 2011 Mavic Ksyrium Elites.
$600. installed/out the door (+ the extra $50. I sprung for the MP3 Warranty).

Do post pics after Santa drops off that little package (fingers crossed for you).

:)

Oh B...I was so tempted to suggest a Hollowgram.
IMO, that is well worth selling a kidney over.

I could be wrong, but I've heard that GP4Ks last almost as long.

I'm not a fan of adaptors - would rather get a SRAM Force that's BB30-ready out of the box.

Seems to me that - by-and-large - the Force is pretty equivalent to the Ultegra..?

ussprinceton 12-13-11 06:19 PM

...there is a pair of new 700x23c Gatorskin tires with a quantity of 389 as of 7:16 pm eastern time (12/13/11) being sold on eBay for $75.94 shipped...I've been watching the sale for quite some time now and there have been many sold...I'd like to make a purchase and try them out...if I see a really good deal on the GP4Ks, then I don't mind buying them also...I always have a use for some tires...

Yeah, close enough, although people will point out that Rival (as a groupset) is already close to Ultegra in weight. Plenty of options that'll work with the other Shimano parts, though, so your Ultegra stuff won't be hung out to dry.

I haven't had a BB30 frameset yet, so I go with Shimano for cranks. No problems at all so far. :thumb:

Here is my 2010 CAAD 9.
- 105 gruppo
- SRAM Force crank
- KMC chain
- Mavic Aksium wheels
- Thomson seatpost and clamp
- PRO vibe 7 compact bars (carbon)
- stock C4 stem
- Pro 3 tires
- Specialized Avatar saddle (getting a Romin for x-mas)
- Fizik dual tape (wrapped so the gray does not appear, just gray stitching)

upgrading wheels and tires in spring to GP4KS and maybe the Katmandu wheels from Zen or something like that. thinking silver hubs, spokes and rims (maybe black).

JoeyC68 12-13-11 08:58 PM

Great looking bike.

I did some looking and Rival is almost 200 grams lighter than Ultegra 6700.

When I picked my bike up about a week ago at my LBS the guy said check this out and he showed me a bike like yours still in the box they hadn`t assembled yet. It looked sweet, the orange is really bright in person. Kinda like Richard Petty`s STP nascar car. Great color scheme, that was my second choice.

BarracksSi 12-14-11 07:17 PM

The blue's lighter, and the orange is orange-er than Petty's; I also go with what JoeyC68 calls it, Gulf Oil blue:

(my favorite racing car of all time, BTW ;))

settle down..it's been like 4 posts.

Velo_Tut 12-15-11 12:10 AM

^^^ Tru. But CAAD is my crack.

Spookeay Bird 12-15-11 12:33 AM

He was down there in the shop. Pulling on that frame like Crackhead on CAAD. Some one needs an intervention!

ussprinceton 12-15-11 04:05 PM

I went for a 3 and 1/2 hour ride on my CAAD 10 today because it was my day off...I went to downtown Chapel Hill, NC...on my way there, a medium sized dog started barking at me and chased me for about 20 feet...there was a van coming down the opposite side of the road and almost ran the dog over (I didn't mind if that would have happened,...I have no sympathy for dogs who are trying to bite me)..the van had to completely stop because the dog wouldn't get out of the way...speaking of animals getting ran over, I saw a lot of dead squirrels flattened by cars and trucks, poor harmless creatures. I had to go by the same road where the bad dog lived on my way home...my only defense is to pedal as fast as I could, or give the dog a kick if all else fails...this time around, the dog was inside its fenced yard...what a relief

2ndGen 12-15-11 04:15 PM

Probably a Specialized Dog!
