Ordered my first set of Psimet wheels!!!!
I have been considering adding a set of 50mm carbon clinchers to my wheel collection for a few weeks now. I realize that I don't need them but I really like having a set and I am kind of missing my Zipp 404's. I have been looking at a few different companies including Williams, Soul, YishunBike, Spinergy, and of course Psimet. After reading about all of the great experiences with Psimet on here it almost seems like a crime to not go with him, especially since buying from him would allow me to support a member of this site.
I originally wanted to have my PowerTap built into a rear wheel but that didn't work out since my PT Pro+ is 32 hole and he doesn't have any carbon 50mm rims in 32 hole at this time. Hopefully that will change in the future, if it does I'll be begging him to do another build for me.
Anyway, here is the build that he came up for me. Keep in mind that I am heavy at this time so he designed a build with that in mind.
Front=Novatech A141 hub laced to a Psimet Clincher rim 24f/2X using DT-Comp-Black spokes and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples
Rear=Novatech F162 hub with Shimano freehub body laced to a Psimet Clincher rim 28r/2X using DT-Comp-Black spokes on the Drive Side and laced 2X using DT-Comp-Black spokes on the Non-Drive Side and DT-12mm-Brass-Silver nipples

Sounds sweet. I'd really like a set of deep carbon clinchers as well but I'm going to wait until I can spring for a Quarq Cinco. I don't think I can live without looking at my power data (not that it's very impressive). Psimet is definitely on my short list.
Definitely post with your impressions of the carbon clinchers once you've had a chance to get out on them a few times. Compare them to some others in your wheel repertoire. Any idea on the predicted weight for a build like that?

[shameless plug] That build is a little heavier than many other options, but it services LowCel's needs as I see them. That's the beauty of custom (IMHO) [/shameless plug]
For the most part I'll stay out of this thread. I have always encouraged transparency from my customers and enjoy seeing feedback - positive and negative. Thanks for starting it!

Rob, I think that it's more an issue of finding a custom builder who also has many options. IMO that distinguishes you from many other builders. (Still loving my Record rear w/CX-Rays and Velocity O/C.)

I told myself I couldn't get sucked into the 50mm carbon wheels until after I become a cat 4. After that though, I'll definitely be interested in some Psimet wheels.
Random question for Psimet:
What's an average weight you could get a set of 50mm carbon clinchers at with your setup? I'm about 145lbs and most likely wouldn't have a powertap installed. If there's no way to say for certain, no worries. I'll contact you later (probably a year until I can get to a Cat 4
) with a more serious inquiry

i interested to hear about this too.
i currently have a set of SRAM S60/S80, which have alloy braking surface/structure but deep carbon fairings. as such, they're heavier than they "could" be.
i want to try a set of carbon clinchers (i'm still not sold on the tubular glue thing), and i like how psimet is like "we get them from taiwan, so we don't charge as much"

And you can order parts from him too. He's built me Kinlin 300 / PT trainers, 50mm carbon tubulars on Alchemy hubs, supplied me with a killer deal on a Quarq Rotor 3D, and gotten me some cross tires and tubes.
Psimet, more than just badass custom wheels.

Complex configurations can get lower....like in the 1500g range - with some heavy price adders.
Getting lighter requires switching the rims to EDGE/ENVE which increases the price exponentially but can result in 1300g range carbon clinchers at 45mm deep. ....FWIW.

You'll like 'em. I have a very similar set with a PT rear hub, and they're my favorite wheels, period. Braking is the best of any all-carbon rim I've ever had, including Zipp, Reynolds, and Lew rims.

For everyone - I'm laughing at a ton of the comments so far.

lighter saddle, lighter bars, lighter groupset....now i'm looking at my wheels and they're aero but they could be lighter.
not that the stuff is going to make me magically better. but to be shocked by the bike's lightness every time i lift it off the rack...pretty cool.

I'm not overly concerned with the weight on these wheels since my race days are most likely over, I don't want overly heavy but I do want something that is durable for the 200 pound range. I currently weight more than that but most likely I won't be riding these until I am below 200. If for some reason I do decide to race I'll be contacting Psimet again and sending him money for some tubulars.
I just can't justify spending twice as much for a "name brand" wheel when we have a forum member supplying us with awesome wheelsets (from everything I have read) for less than the price of one name brand wheel. Hell, I can't even get anything comparable in the same price range from any of the big boys and I get all of my toys at wholesale.

Congrats!! I plan on a set in the Spring. From all the positive responses on Psimet's wheels and the affordable prices he offers, not sure why anyone would pay double+.

Have you received everything for mine or still waiting on parts for them as well? No rush just curious.
