because after my Joe Blow Pro failed, I brought it back to Performance Bike and they refused to warranty it. They said that the pump had a two year warranty and that because I purchased it 2 years and 3 months earlier, there was nothing they could do.

I was kind of mad, and planned to call Topeak and give them a piece of my mind, but they happily agreed to send me a new head free of charge.

About 3 days later the head arrived and the pump again works perfect.

I would have to give Performance a piece of my mind. 3 months out of warranty, or 3 years, they could've went to bat for you, their paying customer, and made the 5 minute phone call to Topeak. What's the worst that could've happened..... Toepak tells them "No." and Performance has a chance to sell you a new pump?

My Joe Blow Sprint head failed after 2+ yrs and replaced the Twinhead with a Smarthead. Much nicer.

Topeak has good customers service and their pumps are good pumps but not great pumps. I have a four year old Joe Blow Pro in my garage that has been completely rebuilt twice and I am again having problems with it. A few months back I bought a Lezyne CNC floor pump and it is in a completely different league from the Topeak pump. It is like comparing a Mercedes Benz to a Kia. The Lezyne being the Mercedes. If you ever decide to replace the Joe Blow, take a look at Lezyne. The Joe Blow pump will became a back up pump or maybe I will donate it to a worthy cause.

I've had my JB Pro for about a year and a half. I love it. It does what it's supposed to do.
I was going to purchase a 2nd cheaper pump to keep on my job site for those days I rode to work.
But then, I decided that if I'm going to buy a pump, I'm going to buy a Lezyne CNC Floor Pump
as well and make the JB the back up pump. I'm pretty much in love with everything Lezyne.

I wanted a Lezyne Carbon Mini Pump, but came across a Topeak Carbon Micro Rocket (hardly used for $15)
which again, does what it's supposed to do. So, until it breaks or fails on me, I'm going to roll with it.

I'm a fan of Topeak. Everything they make suits me until I need to upgrade. Matter of fact, just dropped
the plastic bottle cages I had on my CAAD and replaced them with Carbon Arundel Mandibel Cages.

I too am a Topeak fan. I have one of their seat bags on my bike and it fits the bike and my needs just about perfectly. I also have a Road Morph which is a good pump. However, I think Lezyne is just about the best stuff I have seen from any bike manufacturer. If you do a Google search from the Lezyne CNC pump you should be able to find it for somewhere between $60 and $70.

I am also a, fan of Arundel. I have two Trident cages on my bike. They didn't make the Mandible when I bought my cages or I would have bought them, but my Tridents have performed without any issues--I have never dropped a bottle.

Really? You took some broken pump back to a retail outlet over 2 years after you bought it and were 'kind of mad' they wouldnt warranty it, even though you knew it was out of warranty? Sheesh. Mr Hard to please!

Props to Topeak for going above and beyond the call of duty, but I don't think you really have any reason to be annoyed with PB.

First off, I'm happy to see someone posting a positive experience with a company. We see far too much of the opposite.

That said, if the warranty says "2 years", why are you pissed when your product breaks AFTER 2 years? Where's the entitlement coming from?

That must have taken some balls to try to get a bike shop to repair/replace a product that was out of warranty. But yeah, definitely props to Topeak. I'm kind of curious how you were going to give them a piece of your mind.

This, 2 years isn't bad, especially when your buying stuff on the cheap. I wouldn't have felt bad at all.

My fist two pumps didn't last 6mo each. One of those two was a joe blow, don't remember the other one. Kept returning and stepping it up a notch. Got a steel lyzne finally, the screw engagement to stem is second to none, and it's lasting with no leaks.

I love Topeak stuff. The Joe Blow pumps do break. But I like them enough to keep getting a new one every couple of years.

I also like their valve extenders, fenders, etc. The valve extenders break too, but they work better than anybody else's.

I guess I just had the expectation that the pump would last longer than two years, otherwise I probably would have spent more money on a different pump that was either designed to last much longer, or that had a reputation of lasting much longer. Either way . . . props to topeak.

But things break and when you have to call someone it's nice to speak to someone who stands behind their product.

Ironically, my Performance Hurricane floor pump has lasted 5+ years. Just sayin'.

Topeak has a reputation for good customer service, glad to hear it's still there.

Performance is very good about taking back new/nearly new items that aren't working (or don't fit, or are quite right), but once they have been used I think they are not as accommodating.

I am still on the same pump that I bought 4 years ago when I got back into riding again...a cheapo K-Mart Schwinn floor pump and still going strong. Even though I tend to by quality name brand items, it is going to be hard not to buy another Schwinn once this one breaks.

My Joe Blow's dual pump head came apart completely a month or so ago, also out of warranty (only much more-so). I called and explained my story (the threaded stud that hold's it all together just snapped, sending the slotted cap opposite the lever across the room), and they kindly suggested that I buy a replacement head. I had not been expecting a free replacement, but wanted to give them a chance to offer it just the same, and I completely understand why they can't just shower replacements out to everyone. A BF user (HillRider) was kind enough to offer up an extra Silca head and I've been (very happily) using that since. I like the pump itself, and have had it for quite a while, I was just unfortunately much further outside of the 2 year warranty period than the OP was.

Update: After six months the head failed again. Rather than buy a new head, I'll just buy another floor pump. This time probably the Lezyne floor drive. I'm tired of floor pumps failing all the time.

It's like seven bucks for a good new chuck like this one. If the rest of your pump is fine, I don't know why you'd toss it out.

how does the brass one work? I am not a big fan of chucks that you have to hold on the valve

We got two Joe Blow Pros at our shop, and one of the head broke in less than a month (well we do pump up a lot more bikes), but the second one has been going strong for 4 months now. I plan on getting one myself but after hearing so many horror stories about it, I am kind of reluctant.

For the most part, I like it. Just slide it on and it sticks. You don't need to hold it in place. When you're done pumping, press the button on the chuck to release the pressure in the hose, closing the valve stem and making the chuck a little easier to slide off. The chuck's still not *easy* to remove, though. I found it helpful to use a little spit to lube the stem before attaching the chuck. Otherwise, I was worried the chuck was going to rip a stem right out of the tube! Maybe it'll break in a little with more use and loosen its death grip on stems.

The thing is solid brass and quite heavy. Other than the possibility of a gasket wearing out, I can't imagine it'll fail within my lifetime.

I'd like to reiterate how fantastic the Lezyne CNC floor pump is. I'm spoiled for all other pumps.

Hey, thanks for that tip. I just bought one for another one of my old dead pumps, that I'll try and bring back to life.
