Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

You know how animals can sense danger? You should have seen the look Whiskers gave me when I started monkeying around with my flat tyre.

This self-vulcanizing fluid is made in Taiwan. I bet coasting can get me a deal on patch kits.

Whiskers knew you needed a new tire. He finds you dumb, yet entertaining.

He also thinks it takes you too long to fix a flat.

Despite your best efforts, Whiskers still finds you too fat for this sport.

Today's ride is going to be rough. My legs feel like jello from the past two 50 mile days. I'm not sure if I'll manage another 50 miles today or cut it short.

For the record, coming in to work on a Friday sucks! No wonder I work 4-10's. Another hour and I'm outta here!!!

I'd consider sending the frame out for repainting. Obviously, it might not be worth the investment, but Spectrum Powder Works in Colorado Springs is one of the best.

How do you paint a bike? You don't use regular cans of spray paint, do you?

Heck if I know. Basically the only thing I've ever painted is walls.

It's a 20 year old Schwinn Traveler. The only reason I'm rehabing it instead of replacing it is because I've owned it since new. I'm kind of attached to it.

Besides, I haven't done a project like this in a long time.

That reminds me I should probably look for some drop bars. The original set got lost in a move. There were a bit narrow anyway - like 39cm. I like the moustache bars, but on longer rides I miss having the more traditional hand positions.

I got tendinitis after a 50 mile hike in shoes a size too small for me on my left achilles.
