Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bikes: Have two wheels

Barefoot triathlon. It would cut down on transition time. Just put platform pedals on your TT bike.

I reckon the cyclist dude on the team behind them isn't rich enough/sponsored enough/stupid enough to wreck his shoes for the photo-op finish.

There should be an extra medal in it for anyone that can endure that!!!

A bunch of the news stories were like, "she got a medal..."

Yeah, we all do...

But really, that guy couldn't take his wetsuit off while the bike or run portions were taking place? Silliness.

Who writes this garbage? And how the heck did they end up crashing into each other?

"Pippa Middleton didn't so much sweat as glisten at a triathlon in Woodstock, England on Saturday.

Clad in a tank top, running shorts and sneakers, Princess Kate's little sister, 27, was radiant and strong as she ran among other competitors -- colliding with one handsome, topless mystery man! -- for Saturday's GE Blenheim Triathlon at Blenheim Palace."

The comments on some of these stories is funny.

Apparently there was a conspiracy devised by the Middleton parents to send the daughters off in search of rich aristocrats. Sorry VV, your hopes are dashed.

Running a 5k portion of a sprint tri as part of a relay team doesn't really make you a triathlete.

Just sayin'.

I spent the majority of the day sitting on a tractor underneath a cloudless sky in a sun drenched alfalfa field in beautiful horse country.

I also got to see one of the natural things that I have always wanted to experience before I passed. Hardly a day goes past that I don't hear an owl hooting but I had never seen one in the wild. As is the case with most of my encounters with wild animals it was in very close proximity and very peaceful. Owls are known to be, well, owly and they are capable of causing some amount of harm with their very strong claws if they fell threatened.

I think it was napping since it was in a small tree and tried to fly to the ground inconspicuously. I had just watched a red tailed hawk take flight from a branch 10' above my head so I was pretty sure it was a wounded enemy of its. I moved up from about 15' and didn't find it till I was about 3' away from its hiding spot in the weeds it crawled under. One look at those eyes and there was no mistaking what it was and that it was not hurt. I slowly backed away and gave it a wide berth to get where I was going. Probably not everyones idea of a goal in life but what can I say, I am dull.

Nice mm! I've only seen one owl in the wild and it just didn't seem real it was so amazing. Although I probably saw a couple in my youth but that kinda thing didn't have much impact on me back then.
