Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

So I was fixing up a mountain bike at the local co-op. I'd swapped out a wheel with a bent rim, and noticed the old cogs were really worn in places. Then I noticed the chain wouldn't engage with more than 4 or 5 teeth of the crank at a time, and the same with the cogs on the replacement wheel. The chain had stretched a full quarter inch over 12". I didn't know that was even possible.

I'm going to be honest, and I don't care if I offend the Limey Tea Drinker.... I'm sick of and don't care about "The Wedding."

I just ordered the Total Immersion DVD. I'm interested to see what it is all about. Also, wetsuit arrived today. It's really, really tight. Possibly too tight, but I can move my arms without problem. The "core stabilizer" keeps the midsection taut. Jury is out.

In other news...Gianni is still missing and hopes are fading that he will return. He was a very special cat and we miss him.
Sorry to hear it.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Bikes: Have two wheels

Went to the LBS to get some tools. They are having their 1st anniversary sale. It was packed with people; two bike fittings going on (tri bikes). It was so packed with stuff and people I actually had a hard time getting to the tool section.

It's nice to see that.

I don't understand why they oriented the opener sideways. Surefire spillage in the village!

Unless maybe you're lounging in the grass with your bike laid down beside you as you crack brewskies!

I rode 3 40+ mile bike rides today, for a grand total of 123.41miles for today. A new daily record for me, destroying my past record, by 19miles. Also destroying my feet, and ass. I'm trying to work on my endurance. This should help. Also I'm at 251.85 miles for the week.

You guys suck. It's been overcast and coooold for the past few days here. Plus I'm developing a negative association between my junk and riding my bike.

I've had that too - been riding the Trek MTB with really crappy saddle a lot this week. Will rectify with installation of an SDG Bel-air tonight.

Happy junk and happy junk miles on the commutes next week!

It was in the 40's on my first two rides. The first one I did in complete darkness as well at midnight. Finished it up with a flat front tire at the end of my street. If i must flat, I'll take that.

Fishy, have you been properly fitted, or did you just eyeball it?

That is awesome, way to go! You are killing me on mileage. For the week (Mon-Sun) I have 185.4 so far, plan to ride 40ish tomorrow. For the first actual week of the month I had 254.2 and I've got 311.2 miles for the month so I'm not too dissapointed. I was shooting for 600 miles for the month but I have upped my goal to 800-900.
