Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I'm eating right now. There really is not much wrong aesthetically with the bike. It is the collected internal wear and hard to see broken bits that make it hard to ride. I'll take a pic with the new wheels in a couple minutes.

Any one know how to tell if a hub will accept an 8 speed cassette or if is 10 speed only?
is it shimano?

Not by name but by standard. There is a large gap visible on all but the small cog so I am almost sure an 8 speed will be fine with the correct sized spacer behind it.

If it will take an 8 speed cassette it will take a ten speed cassette unless it has the dura ace hub of a particular configuration that had the taller splines. or if the hub doesnt have the bulge in the middle, that is an early 7 speed cassette hub.

oh you are putting an 8 speed on where a 10 speed was. you wont need a spacer just put it on and tighten the ring. However the 10 speed shifter pulls at a different rate and wont index propperly. So you would need to line it up in whatever gear ypou wanted to run and leave it there.

I do not have a motivational issue.

All I said is that if--for some reason--I got on a lowcel-esque tear and started doing 200+ miles a week, I would need to do more routes than I've been doing recently, or I would get bored.

I've been seeing a lot of impressive racing from Aussies as of late!
Plenty of good Aussie finishes at the Track Worlds, now this at Sunny King!

Kudos Johnny (or however he spells it) !!!

Join a cycling club. You may do the same routes, but you have folks to ride with, and if speed is the goal, folks to chase.

Hey rjones28,

Amongst my fun Saturday night activities I notice this:

Reuters Reuters Top News
FLASH: China reports $1 billion Q1 trade deficit vs. surplus of $13.9 billion a year ago
Two questions:

(1) wut

(2) How will introducing coasting into the equation alter it from here on out?

Probably because of oil prices. Alternatively, coasting may be directly responsible for this situation. Didn't he arrive in Asia at the end of the first quarter?

Now I'm jonesing for more racing action. Downloading Vuelta Ciclista al País Vasco 2011 Stage 5.

Oooh, La Flech Wallonne 1983. Might as well grab that too.

I don't know. It would be interesting to see a breakdown of mountain bike products on the trade ledger. Is he going with a domestic or imported setup?
