Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I see no compelling evidence to support this assertion.

If you see the guy in the other thread who rides his bike on the sidewalk, say hi to him for me. BTW, do you have trouble texting on your iphone when your thumbs are sweaty?

But as salaried, peon, bottom of the totem pole primary care I'm probably not going to wait.
I guess it's just a matter of familiarity with off-label usage. There are several stents I use in the peripheral vasculature, for instance, that are FDA-approved biliary stents. Another favorite are the tracheobronchial stent grafts that just happen to come in sizes that fit arteries and not tracheas. I definitely get where you're coming from, but on-label vs off label is not equivalent to safe vs. not safe, provided you have a body of evidence to support your decision. And if it comes to a lawsuit you know as well as I do that they'll ALWAYS be able to buy some "expert" witness who will testify that you did the wrong thing.

Again, though, it IS new, so you're far from wrong in not accepting it yet.

I'll say.

This is the medical version of Pcad's #1 Rule of Business: No matter what you do you'll piss somebody off.

Get well PCad.

When I had my DVT, after my post-L5-S1 fusion infection, they checked my lungs and found them clear. The Lovenox shots actually got harder for me over time. The shots didn't hurt, but the stinging afterwards bothered me. The reason I got a DVT was the vein my PIC line was in for IV antibiotics didn't like the extra restriction. I was on Nafcillin for the staph infection. Nafcillin keeps Coumadin from working well. I was off all vegetables and on a super high dose of Coumadin, but my INR never got as high as they wanted it. When the infectious disease doc took me off Nafcillin, my INR went through the roof before they could get my Coumadin dosage right.

Pay lots of attention to what you're taking, do lots of Googling, and ask lots of questions.

I got you a little something to make your time in hospital a little more like your time on the bike. Enjoy it, and think of coasting or velovol while you use it.

Upon further reflection, I suppose that does depend on whether you are constipated or not.

One of the most worrying parts of it is that the "typical" person with clot problems is overweight and sedentary ... so Drs can be more inclined to look for solutions elsewhere when someone who is of normal weight and active comes in.

Because I thought it was an overweight and sedentary person's problem, I waited 6 weeks ... until things became quite serious ... before seeking medical attention with my clots.

Quite the opposite ... it kills off any energy you might have. It's not a nice drug.

Drug side effects vary widely among individuals. That's for sure.

On the positive side, you get HTFU points and no one can accuse you of being a hypochondriac. This stuff can get anyone. Like other world class athletes in their 20's, Serena Williams didn't exactly fit most peoples' image of a pulmonary embolism candidate, but she's only recently been able to restart training.

That whole drug side effect/general efficacy variance is rather amazing. It's like 97.95% of the population takes it and gets the intended outcome and they're just fine, 2% have horrible side effects of all kinds and can't tolerate the same pill, and 0.05% drop dead.
