Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

My dad is a safety director for a rock crushing company. He has a huge amount of great looking "sporty" safety sunglasses. I have 5 pairs of dark for back up and the same amount of clear for night riding. I'm happy with them, however i wouldn't turn down Oakley's if they were a gift!

Oakleys are really expensive and since I pop out their "amazing" lenses and use Rx instead they're not alot of bang for the buck.

That said I'm currently wearing a pair as I decided to use my vision policy for Rx (polarized) sunglasses and just put new lenses in my "every day" glasses. They look sharp, no doubt.

I bought a pair of Giros to also Rx but things happened and I never did. My wife wears them and gives them a ringing endorsement. Much cheaper than the Oakleys for sure.

I thought swag was the free stuff you get when you sign up for a race or organized ride (generally something like a t-shirt and few single-serving packets of Heed) If you know of a race that's putting Oakleys in the Swag bag, sign me up!

I tried the Oakleys, and wasn't blown away by them, especially given the mind-blowing price. The 'superior optics' don't mean squat if you're sweating hard enough to fog them (which I did routinely despite the fancy anti-fog coating they claim is on there) as everything will lose resolution.

I've been through a lot of sunglasses, but I'm pretty happy using 2 sets:
1) Very dark polarized lenses - for bright noonlike summer riding. I use Natives but anything will work provided they're dark.
2) Tifosi Fototec Red glasses - For everything else, especially dawn/dusk. These photochromatic lenses do not darken enough to be comfortable on a bright sunny day, but they will excel in all other conditions, including fairly dark ones. I nearly exclusively use these during winter months.

Unfortunately, haven't found a solution that encompasses all , but these 2 suffice - and they're not as insanely expensive as Oakelys so if they get lost/chipped/broken, they're easily replaceable.

Oakleys aren't cheap, but they are cheaply made.

Bikes: Several

I've had exactly 5 pairs of sunglasses since 1996. All Oakley. I still have all of them.
I ride with a pair of Ryder sunglasses from Bonktown for $20.
This is because I intend to keep all of my Oakley sunglasses for a long time since they cost so much.

If I lose/damage the Ryder's. I will buy a new set for $20.
I miss the polarization while riding, but for me while riding, the wind blockage is the most important feature.

I've been wearing Oakleys since they released the Razor Blades in the early 90's. I recently picked up a pair of the Transition lens Jawbone.

When it comes to style, fit and function...I can't find anything better than Oakley.

I prefer Wileys, look nice - feel solid and never have had to deal with broken frames like I have done so many times with Oakleys.. My favs are the Pt3's.

Thanks for all the replies, ended up getting a pair of polarized Bolle free with Air Miles points.
Going to use these until I can save for the Jawbone.

Luxottica has bought several companies including Oakley, but I'm not sure that all the glasses of the brands they own are made the same way or in the same factory. Are you?

I disagree, so I'm curious why you think they are cheaply made, and in comparison to what. Maybe you could say what Oakley is skimping on, and suggest how they could not be so cheap in their production. I've seen a rep do some pretty abusive things to Pro M Frames and Racing Jackets and the frames were fine afterwards.

You don't have to spend as much as the cost of Oakleys to get good sunglasses but if you think you are getting the same thing for <$10 you are kidding yourself. Yeah they may be tinted but that doesn't mean they are protecting your eyes at all. Now your pupils are dilated from the shade while all the harmful radiation from the sunlight is going straight in...

Some can be photochromatic, polarized, or both.
I will say one thing about the Serfas that really turned me off. The frame was painted or coated with a material that has wrinkled up and flaked off from sweat. You would figure that they would have considered this, seeing how they are cycling glasses.
Beyond that, mine are very comfortable, the lenses change out easily and came with about four or five colors (I use two). The price was great as well, compared to many other higher priced, but no more or less comfort or optic quality.

I use sweet Vans sunglasses that were $10. Basically so I don't have to freak out when I lose/break them.

There are always cheap knockoffs for those who just want oakleys for the name/style. here are some Chinese jawbone copies for $20 - https://www.dealextreme.com/p/fashion...es-white-68764

I'm in the market for some new glasses as my old nike zondas tend to give me some blind spots, especially when riding on the track. I looked at oakleys, but they aren't any better in that department. Kind of mulling over the Rudy-project sportmask. The Rudy stuff all seems pretty nice.. anyone have experience with them?

If you have a CitiCard credit card, you can get Oakleys at a discount... still $$$ though.
