Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I just got back from a short trip to Gatlinberg. I did a couple of rides there.

If VV has to deal with that level of automotive stupid everyday I can understand his lack of riding.

its beautiful up there and I would love to ride those "mountains" but you're right...it's hard enough being on the road with other people when you're in a car

Hiya TS!

Nothing is wrong with that.

But, I expect this will be a common sight.

One summer I had a job house sitting. My favorite part of the gig was getting to ride around in the homeowner's 124 Spider.

So LAJ - what group are you putting on the November? Are you moving the Ultegra over from the Ridley?

I will go with a Red crank, I believe, which are quite reasonable through November. Since it has switched to BB30, that seems a good option. Those KCNC brakes actually get decent reviews from folks that aren't strictly concerned with weight, so I am considering those. I am totally good with Ultegra 6700, so the shifting will be done with that. I may weight-weenie out just a tad.

The Ridley has been nothing but a great bike, so there is no way I would break it down, and toss it in a corner.

I think Rob sells a 50/58 clincher combo that's pretty well priced. Might be worth a look.

What about wheels? The Reynolds would look sweet on the November.

I totally agree.

Supplement those with a set of Psimets of some fashion or another.

What are you thinking? Since you have the 66s, some lighter Kinlins maybe?

They do. But I have a set of Reynolds that are perfectly perfect, in a deal that couldn't be passed up. An affirmation by sbxx was all it took to pull the trigger, and I couldn't be happier.

I'm thinking maybe a set of these in the "SOB" build with Chris King R45 hubs. On the other hand I am not sure there is really anything wrong with the Novatec ones.

I received that last few bits of Red today and will be moving stuff around this weekend. Operation Red November.

Let me take this opportunity to remind you bike weenie idiots that you are all Freds, Johnny Lunchpails, both, or in the case of S.A., utterly deranged and a potential threat to U.S. national security.

42 mpg on the Lexus. 168 miles, 4 gallons of regular gas. I'm so friggin ecologically correct it makes me want to fire up a nice smokey carbon emission blaze in our fireplace.

Also Psimet quoted me a smokin price on some 65mm carbon clinchers that's very tempting. They only weigh 1470 grams. Hell, that's 80 grams lighter than the Zipp Firecrest 404's and 7 mm deeper (65mm vs. 58 mm).

do it! You have got to help support the independent wheel builder, so he can get out of his dead end job. (and I love my 50mm CCs)

and don't forget the extra spokes in light of your fatness.

ENVE with DT240 hubs are an excellent choice....you are allot of things but cheap you're not...also, is there a better looking wheel out there than these... can be had on e-bay new every couple of weeks for 1799.00...
