i did crossfit for 10 months. i guarantee this guy has never attempted it. anyone that has done it knows its no joke. i might not be an "athlete" because i dont participate in any type of athletic competitions anymore but i but i can do twice as much work in the gym as that guy. he can probably squat and deadlift twice my max but in a mixed bag of events, i bet i could get him.

btw, saying he couldnt keep up with you in the gym and admitting his squat and deadlift are significantly better than yours, is not a great lead in to say "i could do twice as much work"...

I tend to agree with him. While he might be speaking in general terms, what he's saying applies to any sport. Can an avg joe who goes for a 5 mile run every morning after his coffee consider himself an athlete? The guy who plays basketball at the Y every sunday night? The guy who bombs around on his bike 3 or 4 times a week? Heck, the same can be said for a Crossfitter.
It might sound like semantics, and this is just my opinion, but you can be athletic without being an 'athlete'.

well now i just feel dumb.
i agree. doing crossfit doesnt make you good at everything, it makes you good at crossfit. once i stopped and went back to a traditional weightlifting routine, i was weak as hell. except my squats and deadlifts, but they even progressed a lot more doing traditional weightlifting as opposed to crossfit. i think a normal strength routine combined with burpees will probably give you better results than crossfit. its awesome if you're huge and strong before you start and want to slim down and get in better shape but if you are skinny and weak like i was when i started its really tough to move upwards. coach rip is still awesome though, i dont care waht he says about cyclists. riding my bike isnt the only workout i do so its whatever. i can still play basketball, i play sand volleyball 2 nights a week, lift weights 3 days a week for now, snowboard all winter, run a little when i want to (not as much since i bought the bike), thats more than some crossfitters.
Its ok, you learn about coach rip during month 11.

I stopped Xfit because I started repeatedly injuring myself, and switched to cycling. Sure I've lost about 10lbs of mass, but I'm happier now. There's something about being outdoors and speeding around the countryside that I'll take over swinging kettlebells around any day.
