I spend little on jerseys, average around $25. I spend more on bibs cuz I ride long distances and want quality construction and chamois. Even then I average around $110 for those. On a month to month basis my cycling money goes into performance snacks for rides, electrolyte tablets for water bottles, vaseline for the nether regions, things like that. When I buy gloves (about every 6 months) I get a decent pair on sale for about $18. Helmets, I get the cheapest, approved one with the ventilation I want. Last one cost me $40. The past year I've bought almost everything I currently have with Groupon deals, Active Lifestyle deals, etc, coupled with a regular store sale as they will honor both. So that $40 helmet actually priced at $120, but a Groupon deal and sale dropped it to $40. I also got a $30 box of PureFit sport nutrition bars for $15, a pair of Shimano R-087 road shoes priced at $110 for $45 and Shimano PD-R540 pedals priced at $55 for $25, all with Active Lifestyle deals and store sales. Power to the consumer!!

Bikes: quite a few
jerseys, shorts - $30-40 max
gloves - $20 max
helmet - $30 max
shoes - $60-80 max, although the first pair I bought was over $120 - it was in Australia where the markup is higher
socks - $5/pair max
sunglasses - $40-50 max
I have one pair of Performance bibs, it was around $40. I rarely use them as I'm not sold on bibs.
I think a lot of cycling clothing is horrifically overpriced without adding much value. I'd rather spend my money on beer, travel, concerts, etc.

I wear almost exclusively Rapha kit. They have outstanding, tried and true products, excellent customer service, and even do repairs to damaged wool clothing for free.
Jerseys - $170
Bibs - $200-220
Rain Jacket - $295
Arm warmers - $50
Merino wool base layers - $80
I try to buy in bundles since you end up saving about 20%. Coupon codes help too

When people tell you that cycling saves money, gas and the environment, it's a total lie; you end up spending a bundle on other non-environmental products you would not normally purchase.

I love Capo, Castelli, and Rapha so my gear is pretty pricey in most cases. However, I often score really good deals on all of these by simply buying things at the end of each season.
Bibs- 150-250 in season, 70-150 on sale at the end of each season
Jerseys- 65-150 in,40-80 off
glasses- The last pair I bought was 150 on sale
Shoes- I have an addiction here so anywhere between 200-400 for main shoes and 50-200 on random stuff I just think look cool like sales on Bonktown
gloves- summer- 40-60 winter-50-80
socks- I will not buy traditional cycling socks. Instead, I wear Injinji socks that run about 12 a pair.
Part of my problem is I love having two weeks worth of complete outfits at all times AND I prefer primarily black with red or white accent colors. So, because of those two factors, I buy all three of the above brands and often have to go to their top of the line stuff to fill out the extra outfits so I'm not wearing duplicates. I don't buy anything to impress others, I simply buy things I enjoy wearing and I think look nice. I have Assos but it's not in my top four favorite clothing brands.

Retail prices for gear I buy:
Bibs - 180-250 Capo, tried some others, but I keep going back to Capo, also team kit is Capo
Jerseys - 120-200 Capo, same deal as bibs
Jacket - 200 Capo again, gotta love it
Arm/Leg warmers - 30-60 Capo and Pearl Izumi for colder weather
Glasses - 100ish Salice, cheap but I love them more than any others I've tried, only downside is that I have to order extra lenses from europe
Shoes - 380 Shimano R315, I only wear one pair, because I don't need any other, perfect shoe
Gloves - 55 Capo
Socks - 10-15 Sockguy/Capo
Helmet - 250 Giro Aeon, uber light and perfect fit
I pay about 60% off those prices so it's not too bad

Well ... up until recently I paid what casual customers pay, but since joining a tri club that's sponsored by quite a few manufacturers ... I pay less than half that.
You wouldn't believe the prices for clothing or even 404's when you buy directly at manufacturing price.
That said ... I used to pay around $300 for a full winter/summer outfit.
