Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bmc?

Hi guys,
What's the deal with BMC? I have heard that they are now kinda junky mailorder bikes (think Motobecane) and also notice it seems like many of their dealers are dropping them for the 2012 line. Any truth to this? Did they get bought out or something?

Thanks

I had no idea that Cadel won the tour on a crappy mail-order bike.

Can't wait to see how this turns out. Do they still manufacture in Switzerland?

I'd guess they've sold some excess inventory through online retailers. That supply may now be gone, so they're back to business as usual.

The only place I've seen them available online has been through speedgoat. I'm going to go out on a limb, because I've never ordered anything from them, but it appears like they are not a shady "mail-order" shop. In fact, if I understand correctly, they have a valid brick-and-mortar facility in Elgin, IL. I made a phone inquiry the other day and the cat I spoke with seemed knowledgeable and friendly - not like a sweatshop call center guru.

Yea, Tour de France winners on crappy mail order bikes. And I guess Competitive Cyclist is in the same realm as Bikesdirect now.

Sunday troll needs to try harder.

I think the Impec is the only one made in Switzerland now.

Starting threads on rumours and allegations is lame if you don't provide direct sources/quotes. Kinda like accusing somebody of being a drunk - or worse - without proof. Hurtful.

Bikes: Too Many

The billionaire owner of BMC is pumping money into the brand but for how long. Last year, the BMC team cost was 27million. BMC bike sales were 15 million. How long will this go on.

Ah...BMC doesn't foot the cost for the whole team. They have other sponsors, too.

Where did you pull up their 2011 sales numbers? That's pretty quick.
