my first commuting experience today
due to lack of facilities and 46mi round trip commute wasn't going to happen, fortunately I have a coworker who lives about half way between home and work so I went by his place and we road in together. surprisingly cathartic ride, only about 11mi each way to his place, but will up my weekly mileage nicely. due to logistics of riding I can only ride 3 days (T, W, and Th) since I work from home on M and use friday to bring in fresh clothes and take home dirties.
overall though its quite nice, I get to the office about 645ish and of course I'll get out early and make the ride home around 3ish. this works out nicely since I have football coaching responsibilities with my boys starting in mid July. I can continue to ride instead of what I did last year which pretty much cut me off at the knees for the season. sucked too cuz I was making nice progress that got abruptly stopped. this is fairly exciting though, should see some nice benefit to it.

good for you.
i thought about doing something similar if i ever switch jobs or house and the commute becomes too far. find a parking spot and ride the rest of the way.
right now, my commute is only 8.5 miles round trip. i commute pretty much everyday except on days that i remember to use my sportcar and my sportbike so the batteries don't die on me again. lolz
i get my long distance on my days off.
be safe.

I figure with Fam commitments my weekend 'distance' rides will be fairly limited. a fair trade though, I can do my distance rides in the spring/summer until football kicks up for the boys and still get an occasional saturday/sunday ride early in the morn.
luckily for my commute I only have to pack my laptop on Tuesday morn. though I've got a week of on-call duties starting the 25th, so i'll have to drag it with me then.
my friend has his Garmin download of the ride, difference of about 1/2 mi according to google maps, close enough.

nice casual ride in, he's taking me a slightly longer route on the way home, should add about 2-3mi

ok, today is my last day this week for commuting on the bike, refreshing ride in the mornings, chilly a bit today (57° and 92% humidity), its not a long ride but it nets me ~20 miles per day in riding without taking time away from the fam so I'm gonna take it.
note - I swapped out my oem Fizik Pave' saddle (comfy but made my junk go numb if it was adjusted to where I wasn't fighting to stay on it, I could lose the numbness if I nosed it down a touch but I had to fight the seat all day) for a Terry Liberator Y that my coworker had, unfortunately this saddle, while comfy is to squishy for me. at the moment I've got about 80-100 mi on that seat, figure that is enough of a try, time to start investigating a new saddle, thinkin of a Spec Romin evo for my next try.

true, but to be fair, I never have queues when I drive anyway. but this cuts my driving distance in about half, which works out nicely, I get some miles in and save some gas.
