A few weeks ago two big dogs ran out of a yard and started chasing me, but that wasn't what suprised me the yard they came out of there was a midget playing basketball. His dogs where more than twice the size of him.

My son and I were mountain biking when we saw two deer standing on the trail ahead of us. We thought it was cool.

We looked off to the right: two more deer. To the rear: three more.

They had us surrounded, and they looked ticked off about something. It was strangely creepy in a FearNet kind of way.

After a few tense moments they wandered off, leaving us shaken and confused.

I live near a lot of dear and wildlife, so waking up to 15 dear in my backyard is nothing, or seeing a dear while riding is common too. Yesterday I decied to go for a ride into the city where you almost never see animals, I eventually rode onto a bike path going though downtown and around a lake (Muskegon Lake) and at about 9:00 while I was riding I looked over to see a deer right next to me, though a chain link fence that was about 5 foot high, I decided to stop, and it just stood there, about 2 foot from me. I started moving closer and it just stood there, showing no fear. After about 5 minutes it started moving to the right where it laid in the bushes, after about 10 minutes I decided I should start heading the 15 miles back home. That was the weirdest thing thats ever happend to me, to bad I didn't have my phone to take pics, or it was November and I had a gun.

Nope, not that time. I was riding with some buddies in Lakeland. Sun N Fun was going on. I did ride down Bayshore today though. Didn't see anything too weird, except at least 15 people riding barefoot...always amazes me.

I've been relatively strange story free. My roommate however had a wasps fly into her ear on a MTN bike ride. The wasps got stuck and required an ER visit to remove it. The doctor said after the wasps had been killed (by drowning it) it had stung her deep in the ear 26 times. Frick'n wasps.

Just teasing...

Only two odd experiences that come to mind are getting a wasp stuck between the arm of my glasses and helmet and a deer encounter.

The wasp incident was a bit scary because I was in the middle of a short but fast descent (65km/h at the time) when all of a sudden this dot came flying at me and wedged itself by my temple. I quickly realised it was a wasp but I couldn't do crap about it until I started climbing again because of the speed and somewhat questionable road quality. I'm glad I didn't start whacking at it because I probably would have crashed. Caught me totally off guard and the damn thing stung me about 3 times.

The deer encounter was funny because I was picking up the pace on a slight decline when all of a sudden a deer hopped out of a field to my right and onto the road. It saw me and froze. I was far enough away that it wasn't a hazard but that damn thing wouldn't move. I swear it seemed like the deer was thinking, "if I just don't move, maybe he won't see me" sort of thing. Yeah, you're fricken invisible mid-afternoon in the middle of a rural road. I actually got pretty close to it (~100ft) before I got fed up. I cursed the deer for screwing with the all-important average speed metric while simultaneously dropping a couple of cogs rather loudly, which startled it off into the adjoining field.

A friend and I were cycling down some rural roads when some guys started to heckle us by yelling things as they would drive by. They probably drove past us a good 5 times before they quit yelling things and then threw something at us. It sounded heavy and went into the high grass beside us, but lucky it didn't hit us. I kind of felt the need to protect myself if they passed us again so I found a fairly heavy rock and we kept on riding toward home. We got about a mile from my house until they caught up to us again. The guy pulled up beside me while I was riding about 15mph. I started to yell at him and told him to "F*** off". The guy just kept pace with me and was looking forward like he didn't even notice I was there. He then started to slowly swerve toward me like he was trying to drive me off the road, so I took the rock I had and threw it as hard as I could against his passenger side door. He swerved harder after that but I managed to slow down, get around to the driver side of him and started yelling at him again. He then took off. Never once did he even turn his head my way, the whole time he just looked straight ahead like a crazy person. Never saw him again.

Very strange. Even stranger, every time they passed us up to mess with us I swear there was completely different people in his car. It was as if they were picking up different friends to enjoy the moment together. totally weird... and lame. Too bad he has a fat dent in his car now tho, I turned out just fine

In my teens, I was riding a mountain bike towards my house. I was about a half-mile away and a bug flew into my ear as a car was coming by. It disoriented me when the bastard flew into my ear and I ended up being hit by the car. Good thing it was an old lady going 20 on a dirt road or I would have been toast..

While slowly climbing a frog hopped from the roadside and landed on the top of my foot , he made one revolution before going on his way. Also followed a wolf for about a quarter mile down a country road . He kept up a fantastic pace before stopping and letting me get a good look at him , much faster and longer than I have ever seen a dog run.

just tonight I got into a race with mr. wiley E. coming down a steep hill. 30 mph was no problem for him. he actually waited for me to cross the 4lane road at the top of the hill. then we went across together and he took off. it was great watching him check me out, of course i was barking at him the whole time.

I've had so many elk experiences that they're not weird anymore. so far my favorite was on the MUP, i stopped to look and an older fellow was walking by and he hadn't seen the beast. so i yell over to him 'is that your dog?'.

Out on a night MTB ride, was going quickly down a forestry track when a rabbit sprinted out from the bushes. It was running parallel to me as I rode through a cutting and the rabbit started freaking out as it couldn't get away. I slowed and it slowed, I sped up and it sped up, then it just took a hard left turn and ran straight into my bike's wheel. I thought the spokes would have sliced and diced the rabbit but it bounced off, the spokes did that tinkly noise like they were breaking, the rabbit did a barrel roll in the air and took off. Freaked me out a bit, though I was going to eat gravel, stupid rabbit. wheel was fine, no blood either.

I had a flock of pigeons fly into me. One was caught in the front wheel, went around at least once and somehow managed to fly off with no damage to the bike or the bird.

Riding the MUP in Eugene OR 10am on a Saturday. Two 50 year old women bums in an all out fist fight. One had her top ripped off by the other with all her 50 bum glory flopping around. It was pretty nasty.

Not exactly the "weirdest," but still interesting.

First of all, I've never been stung by a bee in my entire life.

I once had a bee fly into my front wheel, shoot out its stinger aimlessly into the spinning mass, and the stinger exited the wheel on one side, while the bee exited on the other. Sad day for that bee.

Today, I stopped and took a picture of this on the MUP. It's one dead raccoon stacked on top of another.
