Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

pcad, really, stretching isn't THAT bad. in your condition I would guess you need to do more, but when you are back in cycling shape it is quite easy.

1. very brief, very easy stretches for hamstrings, quads, groin, back, neck, knees and ITB. don't try to stretch too deep, and hold them for no more than 3-5 seconds. overstretching doesn't help and in fact it can decrease your performance. (you're creating microtears.)

2. ride. make sure you ride in the drops at least some of the time, as this builds flexibility in your neck, back and hamstrings.

3. after the ride, within 5-10 minutes, do the same stretches but hold them 10 seconds. you will be far more flexible than before the ride, and benefit far more from deep stretching.

I really don't understand why he's having so much trouble adjusting. Pcad has always been a pain in the ass. You'd think he'd be a natural at dealing with a condition like this.

Get a fast 'bent, ride it til you recover, then sell it and get back to biking as usual. Get something fast that compares favorably with your road bike. Something like a Carbent:

or Bacchetta Carbon Aero:

both of which as framesets could use road bike parts except for the shifters. They're not all bad, look at the smile on this guy:

Good point. Mr Clean is also young and muscular.

Pcad, what's going on? I hope you're not popping too many pain pills....

The rest of the movie didn't disappoint either.

For a really strange experience, read the book from which it was derived: "Heart of Darkness", by Joseph Conrad. Oddly, the book had nothing to do with war. Even more remarkable was that Conrad didn't learn English until he was an adult.

I love that book.

I can read most books in a matter of hours, but damn, that was a hard book to read.
