Pcad, I'm really sorry about your condition. Get well man.
Although those elliptical machine-like bikes might work, I'd actually avoid a recumbent bike because it still does stress the pelvic area, you may still exacerbate your condition even on a bent.
I think the ultimate solution to keep you on two wheels would be to find something that has you totally off your posterior, and in a prone position. It looks like there are a lot of options for you:

Last year I was afflicted with muscle aches deep within the right buttock. After some research I found that the Piriformis muscle can be subject to spasm. Further research suggested that relief could be found by massaging the area with a good sized roller.
Reviewers at Amazon with similar problems suggested thr J/Fit 36" roller. I bought one, and during the first use was amazed to find that deep within the right buttock I did indeed have a severely knotted muscle. Within a few days my muscle spasms were gone.
Don't know if if this applies to to you, but if you are suffering from muscle spasms, it could be worth a try.

I'm sorry, you'd seriously consider giving up cycling before even trying one of these:
https://dvonpusch.zenfolio.com/p14391...18b58#hf318b58
?
I get almost 28 mph on ~ 300 watts on mine...
https://app.strava.com/segments/1318162
that was 565 watts on my heavy, 28lb aluminum, one (but I wouldn't recommend if you want a racing bike)
Now I'm riding a 20lb carbon racing one, similar (older version) to the one pictured:
https://app.strava.com/segments/1608992
https://app.strava.com/segments/1303390
https://app.strava.com/segments/632830
https://app.strava.com/segments/993400
This is considered one of the toughest climbs in western Washington (I don't agree - this one is better: https://www.norka.us/content/festival..._542_info.asp):
https://climb4cancer.net/
I finished 28th out of 60+ on that one (14:14 ~ 2 min back) 2.2 miles of 8-9% with a barrage of 3 15%+ poppers leading up to the finish.
not great, but the bike is certainly not a crutch. I have a 20 min PB of 4.6 watts/kilo and a 6-7 min of 5.4
Might look ridiculous to you. It only looks like Pain to everyone that rides with me.

Sorry to hear about the struggles with pain. Taking 3-4 months off for recovery seems tough, but many have done similar. Take the time and get better. You have a ton of life in front of you.
Would a Mountain bike offer any relief? Different riding position/posture. Getting out of the saddle for climbing, dragging your butt off the back of the bike on descents?

I pop here once a year and PCAD is either hospitalized or getting castrated. No visits to Hellas P? More like Hell this time. Good luck.

There is good news here.
I got bent back in November because of spine issues. If you like pain, suffering, and (mainly bad) sensations, here is the good news:
-the first 100 miles on a SWB bent (mine is a Bacchetta Giro) are really, really awkward. You look funny. It's hard to steer. People don't bother to laugh at you because it's so sad. It's really good for the soul, and it aids detachment from all things of ego.
-climbing steep long grades generates a degree of suffering rarely experienced on a safety bike.
-even riding a bent generates pain, just in different areas.
But remember, there is no more sublime feeling than passing someone on their Madone whilst going uphill. It's a nice feeling.
Also, for reasons I cannot possibly explain, bents are babe magnets.
