Portland People, Help
I am being flown into Newberg, Oregon for work. I can either go in early November, or I can go in March or April. Looking at the weather.com temp averages makes me think that I should wait until April when it is warmer and dryer. Any suggestions? Also, any suggestons on things to do and bike rides would be greatly appreciated. I don't mind driving 45min or so to start my ride. Thanks.

April may be warmer. Or it may not. It most certainly will not be drier.
Those dates are firmly on the middle of what we call rainy season. Oregon has two seasons rainy and less likely to be rainy. So when you come be prepared to get, you know, rained on.
The good news is that there is absolutely epic riding right outside any door in Newberg.
If you come in November you can hit some cyclocross races. You will still get wet, but at least you can be drunk at the same time.
Feel free to pm if you need more info

Well, I looked at weather.com for the numbers. Avg high in November is 52, whereas April is 61. Rain avg in November is around 6.8inches, whereas April is around 3.4 inches. Seems like a pretty big difference to me. Now that I look at it, I might wait until May with high of 67 and 2.55 inches of rain. My wife and I were just excited to take a trip out there this fall, but we may just have to wait since November just doesn't look great regarding weather. Thanks.

I live in Sherwood, 4 miles from Newberg. November is better than April as it may be cooler but in general, it's likely to be drier. The days are short in November. We used to ride at night out on the backroads - LOTS of them here and I can give you some incredible routes - but we were lit up like Christmas trees.

Just an example of how crazy our weather is here, we actually had flooding in April this year. Other years, have been drier. The saying here is, you can tell what season it is by the temperature if the rain.

Im trying to remember...this year March was really wet if I recall, but not overly cold. April was a bit better I think.
There's a TON of riding options in the Newberg/Sherwood area. Parrett Mountain, Chehalem Mountain, Bald Peak...Roy Rogers/Tualatin Sherwood road and Hwy 99 are pretty straight and flat. Also South of Newberg down by Champoeg Park all the way down to Salem is pretty wide open.
Check maps/Strava/Mapmyride/whatever else.

Most of the time our weather - even in November - is rideable...just do your riding compatriots a favor and be sure you have fenders with a nice long "horsetail" on the back one.

I'll be the contrarian here. Come in April. If it rains, let it rain (it will). But it's a bit warmer and the days are longer. The weather is extremely variable in April, but you run the risk of being wet at either time (somewhat moreso in April because of fast changing weather - you get light drizzle that might last for days in Nov; you get showers that last for hours in April), but it's a warm wet, which is better than a cold wet. You won't find snow in either month (except maybe up in the hills, say, the top of Bald Peak where I live, about 10 miles from Newburg - we've had snow at various rare times during both Nov and April).
Lots of really cool riding. Ride the valley if you like flat to rolling; ride the hills if you like to climb. Bald Peak is about 1500ft above sea level; the valley is about 500ft, so a 1000' climb and you can go up the less steep, 9 mile route to the top from Newburg, or the steeper 3-4 mile route from the North out towards Hillsboro. There are also some really good roads going west towards the coast if you are up for some really long rides.
If you are out for group riding, the Portland Velo Cycling Club meets every Saturday all year round (except when there is ice) at 9:00 (or 10:00 in the winter; check their website) in Hillsboro, about 25 minutes from Newburg.

It pretty much rains non-stop from Nov 1st to July 5th.
I'd also probably go for April, though. Probably get a couple of 60 some odd degree days in, where as November is more likely to be in the 50s.
If you can come out in October you could make it for fall colors.

Another vote for April for the temps and daylight. Later in the month or coming in May would be even better. But folks are right, you could easily land here for a very wet few weeks in any of those months.

Friend, I think you are missing it. Nothing is average - and we don't get rain in buckets, it drizzles and drips, and is foggy and chilly. I rode more in November this past year than I did in April. Clearly, May is sometimes better than April, which is usually better than November, but you just don't know. Plan on wet and cool all but July-September, you might have it right with that perspective.
