Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

In other news it's two days to the official start of summer. I had to bike home into a wintery southerly and rain last night with a staggering high of 9°C. I wasn't impressed.

You probably got the email from CC, but Pro4s are on sale. Two for $69.90, free shipping, no tax. I couldn't resist.

To compare, I also got the holiday tire sale email from the other CC (Colorado Cyclist). Each Pro4 is $59.99.

Giordani ski gloves. Sidi winter shoes, heavy Pearl Izumi booties, knit socks over thin dress socks (two layers is key there) and toe warmers (the ones that cost a buck and come in a tear open plastic pack). Keeps me warm down to 10º.

Today the long johns weren't really quite warm enough (the bottoms). But I have been wearing those for years, I think it was humid this AM (lots of black ice) and that may have made the cold feel 10º colder than the 22-23ºF it was.

I don't know the laws in your state, but I am sure the game warden would not approve.

Oh stop! Although this says a lot about our jarheads I guess. If a couple law abiding citizens that are shooting legally obtained firearms scares you. How ever did you make it in the military? Clearly there are far worse threats out there.

Count your blessings. Deer ticks here are vectors for lyme disease. The deer transport the ticks all over the place, including suburban lawns and gardens where they drop off and wait for a human to walk by. The ticks are so small you can get bitten and infected and not know it for years, until serious symptoms begin to show up. The disease is epidemic in the northeast, particularly in the Hudson Valley. I've already had the disease at least once. So there are lots of reasons to not like deer out here.
