Man, this is a busted up group of people. I wasn't seriously injured until I was in my 30s. But when I did it, I did it right. Broke both legs at the same time.

Yeah, figured the ankle swelling came from a softball game, or sleeping, or I fell over whilst drinking. When gout came up, I said "Hey, I'm not my grandparents." It isn't so much painful, it is just extremely uncomfortable.

So true about afflictions with 'The' in front of them, Roll.

You're supposed to wear the parachute, rjones.

Meh, you know perfectly well there's a huge difference between implementing something and marketing something. You can't market the damn thing until you've implemented it. Xerox had the idea, Apple put it to use as a personal computer, for the rest of us (the non-lemmings).

(Few folks know that Xerox actually did implement the technology to some extent. In my shop at NYTel, our word processing group used this machine running a xerox platform to produce and edit our documentation. I don't remember much about it other than it used some primitive graphical elements (by today's standards), and it could do some really unprecedented stuff with our documents. Shortly after that the Lisa came out, then the Mac. We wuz on the cutting edge, baby! Too bad the Einsteins upstairs were too stuck in the mud to realize it. )

I had no details, so I went with the jumping out of a perfectly good airplane scenario.

Not necessarily.

both legs! from a horse!
sounds like a nasty fall.

i fell of a horse and broke my arm into 14 pieces. not that it's a contest, but you win.

rjones28 12-06-12 04:32 PM

Horse threw me into an apple tree a full gallup - he jumped 4 feet to the left, but I kept going straight toward the tree.

Compression fracture on left tibia - pinned. Less serious fracture on right tibia - no surgery.

Fun times.

Dang, and I was seriously considering riding lessons next year.

Soloist Assassin 12-06-12 04:51 PM

I am already planning a horseback riding journey for the spring. Now I am reconsidering....

BillyD 12-06-12 04:57 PM

Thanks a lot rj, you're single-handidly killing the horse riding industry across the country.

Drag 12-06-12 04:57 PM

I used to go horse back riding as a kid. You dont realize how freakin' big these monsters are until you get up right next to them.

he did good. It still doesn't hurt very bad. So that is a Good thing. He popped both of them out in under a minute I would say. I was not timing him, but it was quick.

the dreads have been gone for a while. i kept getting it cut shorter and shorter and then ended up bleaching it so i had a bit of a jean seberg thing going on for a while until the mr. admitted to me that he really doesn't like short hair. i've been trying to grow it out but it gets to a certain length where it looks terrible so i cut it short again, much to his dismay.

more recently he said he misses the dreads. i'm not sure what to do about that.

I agree with him. Well partially, the dreads were really cool, but idk if I would want my gf or wife to have them. I never really liked when girls have short hair. Although I see how much of a pain long hair is to take care of. I don't see where I can make any suggestions, being as I shave my hair off. I liked the pics of you racing your motorcycle with the dreads hanging out. No mistaking who you were on the track.

Well there was your mistake in the first place.

gnome 12-06-12 06:22 PM

glad I'm not as ready for the glue factory as some of you broken down people. I've only broken both elbows and cracked a rib. I may also have a have a couple of minor inherited things that may cause problems when I'm old as dirt (hypertension & scoliosis).

i recovered from my wisdom tooth extraction without much suffering, and two of them were impacted. i'm guessing whatever pain you're in now is far less than what you had been going through prior.

he often described the dreads as smelling like wet dog (they did, sort of, when i washed them (which i did, at least once a week)) and sleeping next to me was like snuggling with a wool sweater. i was surprised that he missed them. i think that's just how much he dislikes short hair.

i could always have dreadlocked extensions installed, but as i creep closer to 40, i've lost some interest in looking really weird. plus, it really did suck in summer to have a wool sweater on my head and helmet fitment was a nightmare.

Drag 12-06-12 07:10 PM

Surprisingly, I've never broken a bone on my body. At least not that I've known of. Which is surprising since I was a rough and tumble kid. Even rode BMX when I was younger with the neighborhood kids and Ive had wipeouts that left me completely FUBAR. I am convinced I fractured my thumb playing volleyball though because it aint straight anymore.
