Actually I was serious-until I started to puke again.

Really a judgement issue, as they say in surgical internship....good judgement comes with experience-----experience comes with bad judgement.

sbxx household gets a new computer for Christmas. We've had this Dell laptop since 2006.

Dell Inspiron 23 All in One w/ optional touch screen (http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-one-23-2330-aio/fs) v. 21.5 iMac (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/hom...ac/family/imac)

Tell us what to buy.

Either will take care of your basic needs.

The Mac has better fit 'n' finish and better processing power in terms of graphics processing vs these particular Dells - if no one in the family is a photoshop power user or gamer, it's kinda moot.
The Dell will be better/easier for everyday, casual use such as media consumption - news feeds, weather, music/video, apps/games for the kid, etc (don't do the Dell if you're not going to go touch). The Mac probably has a better screen (contrast, color saturation, slightly better viewing angles), but I can't confirm the specs on the Dell.

iMac selling point for me would be quality of display. (even though it's not touchy-feely like the Dells)

I wouldn't touch an all-in-one computer with a 10' pole, though.

Uggh!

They've made it very easy to de-prioritize individuals so that you only see some of their posts - hover over their latest post, click on the downward-pointing chevron that will appear in the upper right of the post, click "Hide." The post should go away, being replaced by a couple of text links. Click on "Change what updates you get from ______" and select "Only Important."

Yes, if the Dell had/has an IPS panel, I would take it hands-down, but I can't find any documentation, which leads me to believe that it's a TN panel.

Final answer - I would get the $1600 (with IPS touch panel) Dell XPS One 27" unless a) it's too big or b) it's expected to handle lots of video editing or 3D gaming, in which case I would get the iMac.

Right, I remember now. Thought at first it was some obscure greek liqueur he was talking about.

Hey Mr. Pcad,

I just met someone who went to college in Nyack! I asked her if she had seen a bunch of dumb cyclists doing the Nyack Ride, but that didn't seem to register. Oh well.

rjones28 12-08-12 01:26 PM

Rode the MTB this morning. Muddy farm fields are muddy.

27" is too big. Now which one would you get?

Useful info. Thanks.

I'd like the computer to last a while like this laptop did. Kid will be three in April, so he's a factor going forward. Ease of transfer is important. I have six years of my life on this Dell.

No gaming. I live in Colorado.

Good ride today. There were 10 of us. Very sloppy/wet roads but still plenty o' fun.

Bike was encrusted with road grit afterwards, I had to hose it down.

We did 53 miles at a civilized 18.5 MPH pace.

Peter Chisholm at Vecchio's decided to retape my bars with Cinelli gel after a service. Soup Nazi. It was right before Boulder Roubaix, so I kept it and then stopped riding with gloves. Like yours, they were untaped for years.

Not as annoying as a spin bike or stationary trainer, however.

LowCel 12-08-12 03:55 PM

I've had a busy day. I put the cleats on my new mtb shoes and prepared the saddle bag for my cross bike. I don't know how I find the time.....

Now if I could just find time to go to the shop to pick up my cross bike. :(

Oh yeah, Alley (my older rat terrier) has been barking pretty much all day trying to get Izzy (puppy rat terrier) to play with her. They played once and it was awesome. Makes all of the barking almost tolerable. :o
