These are only supposed to be "snacks."

Unfortunately, no. Opted out of those this round. (There's a decent local Filipino bakery where we can order those by the tray.) What you see there are corn shell taquitos. One of her friends is a Celiac, so she's conscious about what she puts forth. In fact, the standing label holders indicate which foods are gluten-free. I'm not a Celiac though. Nor lactose-intolerant. I can and will eat everything.

Not usually.

To her surprise, the recipe that works best for our regular daily bread is the white bread recipe from the little cookbook that came with the Kitchen Aid mixer.

A Chittenango custom?

No. The Mr. & Mrs. rjones28 custom; established long ago. Even before we lived in the wilderness.

She made all that? (except for the produce, I assume, unless you live in a place like Chittenango where you can harvest crops year-round)

Mostly. The thing in the cake display is a Pistacchio cake. Small things in the lower right are chocolate chip coconut macaroons. Those are mint fudge brownies next to them embedded with crushed candy cane bits. The two angled bowls in the back are filled with mini pumpkin spice cream filled muffins - one with nuts and one without. All baked in the last 24 hours from scratch. The woman loves to bake! My contribution is the tropical fruit salad in the lower left. The taquitos were store-bought though.

my wife is a great baker as well, though she's relearning to bake gluten free.

Going back to the crazy hot chics theme... Be careful who you date.

I was a baker in another life. Working graveyards was great for bike riding, and riding off the stuff I tested. Had to make sure it was fit to eat.

But she missed the headlights.

Fixed.

I have a particular weakness for sourdough and waffles. Other than that, I can eschew the baked goods.

Go Bread.

I love how all the bystanders are giving her a good 12' radius.

I kept hoping some construction dudes would roll up and hand her a 10 lb. sledge. :)

Reminds me of that Before He Cheats tune by Carrie Underwood. I still think that needs to be made into a movie.

Women - most never learn that there's a right tool for every job.

What large cultural differences between Brazil and the US. Most American women put their hair into a pony tail before destroying a car.

LesterOfPuppets 12-10-12 02:26 PM

I'll never forget going to a church potluck WAY back in the day where they had a cakewalk AND a car that you could beat the living daylights out of with your choice of implement.

Me too, but I haven't made any since the move - will have to find some good challah in this town. I like it extra decadent (read: fatty), so I use heavy cream.

And don't get me started on bread pudding. Total weakness of mine. With a warm caramel sauce please. Yowza!

WhyFi 12-10-12 02:49 PM

Torta de tres leches... Eff yeah.

A great baker/cook is a valuable asset, when you are faced with dietary restrictions.

Well she can't really cook. Just bakes. I cook. Cooking for someone with dietary restrictions can be a pain in the ass. But I love her (no scale on how hot she is, sorry).
