Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Today was my first extended practice with a wah pedal. I could learn to love this thing. It's like Pcad Funk Injection.

Hey pcad, you held out against Di2 and then loved it. Was it the same when you went from acoustic guitar to electric and when you went from well water to piped?

Anyone else notice that riding in cold weather just leaves you exhausted? It's 8:30 and I can barely keep my eyes open.

This is what I'll look like by mile 20 of Nyack tomorrow after the fast boys turn up the gas at the front:

About the same here when we started, a little warmer when we finished. I feel fine when I'm riding but later I'm drained. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the two beers I had post-ride (along with some awesome pizza).

Oh yeah, I'm sure that has nothing to do with it.

Yeah, it wasn't so cold here today either. Next week is the Big Chill. There will be a couple of days where it won't break 20ºF, that usually means morning lows in the range of 0 or low single digits here. Riding in the cold doesn't seem to make me more tired, but it does make you ride slower for a couple of reasons.

So I noticed I'm getting a free NHL Center Ice preview for the rest of the month. So naturally, I try to tune in when your Nashville Predators face off against the pesky Columbus Blue Jackets.

What do I see? This event is not available for viewing in your area.

That's right, I can watch all these other silly NHL games, but the Predators one is blacked out.

Giant facepalm.

So I've noticed that quite a few academics/intellectuals start their sentences with so.

I do not want to ruin my tennis racket.

Oh noes! A landslide on the mighty Cherohala Skyway (where I do a century ride). They better have it fixed by spring.
