That's a nice colour scheme. Just enough orange so it's not overpowering.

I lost my long time siamese cat Chester about a year ago. Losing Sam would be tougher still. Oh well. That's how it goes with pets. It's never easy saying goodbye. They bring us a lot of joy.

Yes. I think the Schwinn is a 64.

I cried when I lost my female Rottie, Star, 3 years ago. She was the sweetest, most loving & loyal dog ever.

Moose was devastated, he couldn't understand where his partner disappeared to. He kept breaking out of my fenced yard to look for her in the woods. Finally I had to electrify the fence because he would come back home through the streets at night, not a good thing for any dog, much less a black one. It was really sad to watch him grieve, I felt worse for his loss than for mine.

Something for folks that have more than one pet to consider... in-home euthanasia. When I had to put my first greyhound down, the vet came to my house, so he didn't have to go through the trauma of being carried to the car and taken to a stressful place. He passed peacefully in my arms. My other dog was there for the experience... and although she grieved, she seemed to understand that he was "gone" for good. I don't look forward to "next time"... but I will certainly do the same again.

Why is it that I think small-framed bikes like this look so much better balanced and prettier than when they get above, say, 54cm in size? The WSD bikes all seem like that. Maybe the sloping top tube was meant for these frames.

When my 12 y/o Bengal cat died last year, our Siamese found her. She howled for 3 days straight, walking around the house looking for her "sister". It made my wife and I cry over and over again.

And having said that about the WSD bikes, there is certainly something primal about SA's bike, and maybe the deep rims make it that way.

And then I found Cleave's beauty in the 50+ Race Rigs thread:

That Shiv is just something else.

There's something about the compact frame, dropped stem, sky-high seatpost... I dunno... it just reminds me of something...

How hard is it to ride one of those things?

(Obviously you wouldn't go very far before dying of boredom because it would be so slow).

LAJ 01-08-13 03:35 PM

I had no idea there was a race rigs spot in the 50+ Forum. Thanks Rowan!

We put both our labs down this way. Harder on us, but easier on the dogs. Scheduling the appt, watching them die, carrying the body out on a stretcher. It leaves a scar, but I wouldn't do it any other way. They needed to go in the comfort of the house, without fear and with us right there.

Damn I miss those dogs.

truckstop 01-08-13 03:40 PM

thanks, it's my favorite color combo. blue and orange are actually our team colors for the motorbikes.

i've always thought that 54 size frames also are about the most appealing size visually. look the most in balance proportionally. my bike has really slack geometry and i prefer a flat fit vs. overly racy because my back doesn't tolerate that well, and... well *i'm* not very racy. aesthetically, i think the headtube on mine is a little too tall, and on mr. ts's bike it's a little too short. (mine's a 50 and his is a 52)

After Payton died, the house went quiet. After twelve years, that was hard to get used to. For the first few months, the first person home always turned on the stereo.

Thanks mine is a 54cm for reference. I could do a 56cm with a shorter -17 stem. My trek is actually setup that way. I like this bike better though.

datlas 01-08-13 03:43 PM

OK, I am posting my bike here...because I can!

Next ride: tomorrow!

So the rain started as soon as I left the office. 29F and dry is warmer than 48f and rain.

Shivering.

LAJ 01-08-13 04:02 PM

Agree sbxx. Apryl was scheduled for the vet to be there that night, but.

I don't care if folks thought a couple months later was too soon for a new puppy. Indy needed Georgia-Mae, before that, Apryl needed Indy, before that... On and on. But, even before that, a home isn't a home without them, so ultimately, we all need each other.

Whether you let that depress you is your affair.
